Epic trailer for Disney’s India produced animated film Arjun: The Warrior Prince cuts off heads!

Recently, Disney bought a controlling interest in the Indian movie studio UTV, which had begun work on the animated epic ARJUN: THE WARRIOR PRINCE.  The film is now complete and will premiere in India this month.

The story is “based on the Indian Epic, the Mahabharat, which chronicles the heroic journey of a young prince from the days of his youthful innocence to his emergence as a valiant hero who single handedly took on an entire army in the battle for justice and peace.  It begins with Arjun as a nine-year-old boy and follows him till he grows into the warrior that the world knows him as. It explores his life with his brothers in Hastinapur, his training and education and his ultimate discovery of the warrior within himself.”

Watch Disney get violent:

What intrigues me is the rather violent shit going on in the trailer, which is pretty bad ass if you ask me.  Of course, I’m not an eight year old who will cry in his popcorn at the sight of a man getting his head loped off, so that doesn’t say much.  I’m curious what the reaction will be once this is released in the U.S.  It’s very reminiscent of JOHN CARTER in that you have a shirtless man jumping all over the place and cutting all manner of motherf*ckers down with a sword.

The animation is kind of odd, but in a cool way.  I’m sure for some it won’t be up to snuff, but I think it’s different enough without being distracting.  Either way, it’s a cool-looking blend of CG and hand-drawn elements, which make for a good show of disembowling, riding on horses, shooting arrows, and looking bad ass while silhouetted in fire.

No word on a U.S. release for ARJUN: THE WARRIOR PRINCE, but expect it to roll in sometime after its premiere in India on May 25, 2012.
