Variety is reporting that Eric Heisserer and Jon Spaihts have been hired by Universal to pen the script for their VAN HELSING reboot, which is part of the studio's interconnected slate of films that will feature classic movie monsters such as Dracula, the Mummy and the Wolf Man.

Spaihts co-wrote the script for THE MUMMY reboot with Alex Kurtzman, who will also be directing it, and is developing the planned movie monsters shared cinematic universe for Universal with Chris Morgan. Spaihts also did a rewrite on the DOCTOR STRANGE script, helped pen PROMETHEUS, and wrote the screenplay for the sci-fi romance PASSENGERS, which has been scheduled to open next year. As for Heisserer, his writing credits include 2010's A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET, 2011's THE THING, and the upcoming sci-fi flick STORY OF YOUR LIFE from SICARIO and PRISONERS director Denis Villeneuve.

VAN HELSING doesn't have a release date yet (or a director), but THE MUMMY has been set to hit theaters on March 24, 2017. Who would you like to see helm the reboot?
