Evangeline Lilly talks The Wasp; says she’ll be in fourth Avengers movie

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

There are plenty of badass women in the comic book world, but until recently Hollywood hasn’t been that keen to use as many of them as people would like. Most of the time they take the back seat to bigger, male heroes like Iron Man and Batman, and when heroines do get their own movie the result is something that history really wishes it could take back (CATWOMAN, ELEKTRA). But now that this is something many have chastised studios for, we have movies coming up where women are front and center, like WONDER WOMAN and CAPTAIN MARVEL.

Another one of those movies is ANT-MAN AND THE WASP, a sequel to ANT-MAN which will feature Hope Van Dyne (played by Evangeline Lilly) suiting up with Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) to shrink down to insect size to kick major ass. During an interview with Blastr over the weekend, Lilly talked about the upcoming flick, and about how much of it will center on her character:

“I’m excited because it’s essentially going to be, um, the origin of the Wasp. Of course, we’re going to see the Wasp for the first time take on the mantle, and put on the suit, and fly about, and do her thing.”

She also said that a script has been written for the film but has yet to be “approved” by the higher-ups. Still, she has a lot of confidence in her future in the MCU, so much so that she was willing to dish out a big hint regarding said future:

“Following that one, there’s an Avengers series coming out, I believe it’s a two parter, and, um, the Wasp won’t be in the first part, she’ll be in the second part because they want to preserve that reveal for Ant-Man and the Wasp.”

For those of you who don’t know what she’s talking about let me enlighten you. First, shame on you. Second, she’s referring to the two AVENGERS movies that will be released in May 2018 and 2019 respectively, which both promise to deal with the threat of Thanos, and will feature almost every hero we’ve seen so far, and every hero that has to be introduced (Doctor Strange, Captain Marvel). Considering the movies will deal with the same issues, yet will be completely different films, this should come as no shock she will show up somewhere in one of the two films.

When and where all the Avengers will turn up has been up for much speculation, as it would be a shit show to throw all the characters together in one movie, making more sense to spread the heroes out across both movies, at least for the sake of coherent scripts. I just hope she was allowed to speak about the movie, and that Marvel hasn't hired an assassin to take her out, because I thought Hope had a lot more potential than she got to show off in ANT-MAN, and I'm glad she'll get time to shine in the next flick. Plus her character can fly, which earns her lots of brownie points.

AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR will hit on May 4, 2018 with the follow-up one year later on May 3, 2019, and ANT-MAN AND THE WASP will fit snugly in between on July 6, 2018.
