Even though he was approached, Antonio Banderas doesn't have time to do The Expendables 2

10.21.2011

Sylvester Stallone likes to go after his buddies in action. One that he recently reached out to was Antonio Banderas. Wait...how do they know each other again? Oh yes, they did a little film called ASSASSINS back in '95.

I always see that movie in the $5 bin at Wal-Mart yet I never seem to remember that it was ever made. It was a decent flick written by the Wachowski siblings.

Apparently Stallone asked Banderas if he wanted a role in THE EXPENDABLES 2, "They asked me to do it, I don't think at this point I will have the time. I am very disappointed that it didn't work out. But you never know I will have to talk to Sly." I guess there's always room for him in The Expendables 3, right?

It's really okay. The film already has a crap ton of actors in it: Randy Couture, Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Scott Adkins, and Liam Hemsworth. But I'm sure that's not everyone so far. There's still rumor of Nic Cage and John Travolta. Mickey Rourke said he was not returning, but they don't really need him anyway.

Desperado was bad ass. I'm down is he gets a role in Expendables 3 if that ever happens.

Surely everyone remembers when they both had great roles in Spy Kids 3D...

Spoilers

Well I would be a little more worried about actors not being able to make the 2nd team if, well you know, they actually killed off anyone from the first movie. I mean how the hell do you make an all star movie called the expendables and then NO ONE FUCKING DIES. Boring.

If he was in it...

There'd just be tons of shots showing him holding a gun and sweating a lot I figure.

I'm getting sick and tired of all these fucking names tossed around Expendables 2. Banderas is NOT an action hero. This film is about classic action heroes who have proven they were action heroes over the last 30 years. People who have built their career on the genre. Sly, Arnold, Dolph, Jean-Claude, Steven, Chuck, etc.So NO. I don't want to see Olyphant, Banderas and co. And no, not even Mel Gibson. These are actors who at one point had an action role, but they did not build their careers on

Payback.
Mad Max
Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome
The Road Warrior
Lethal Weapon 1-4
Maverick
Braveheart
Attack Force Z

I think that Mel Gibson has earned enough action cred as Seagal and Dolph at the very least.

I could care less about Banderas as his dvd movies aren't that good. But I think his role in The Skin I Live In is his comeback role so I hope he's in Expendables 2. It'd be great if his supposed role is a crazy/sany assassin like Miguel Bain in "Assassins".

Could care less to see him but yes he's busy in the sense that his straight to dvd career is booming.

Well, he just did a Spanish film that's probably going to be nominated for Best Foreign Picture this year. So he's got that going for him.

He's been getting some of the best reviews of his career in the new Almodovar film. He's in Soderbergh's next flick... He's directing a film. Looks pretty busy to me.

Meh. Not a huge deal. He'd be a cool addition, but it's not something I've heard or read fans dying for. As far as Mickey Rourke's departure, since his character dies anyway, they could just open The Expendables II up with his funeral--kind of have it dark and ominous--being intercut with the opening credits. As each guy lays something on Tool's casket, it could be in semi-slow motion and when they're walking away, there could be a close up shot and the actor's name. Something like that

In any case, I'm more than happy with the cast we have. Sly, Bruce and Arnold alone are enough to make this worthwhile, let alone the rest of the awesome cast. Besides, we have to keep in mind that if we have too many actors we'll have to have a 4 hour movie to do the characters justice.

I watched the movie last night and Mickey Rourke's character didn't die. He was there at the end hanging out with the guys throwing knives. So is this something that happens in between the movies or was it rumored and never happened?

He's talking about the synopsis for Expendables 2 which sates Rourke's character dies in the begining and the crew are going to avenge his death.

Doesn't have time?

What has Banderas been doing besides voicing Puss in Boots the last few years? I remember he had a small part in Woody Allen's "You will meet a Tall Dark Stranger", but other than that I haven't seen him much. He can't be THAT busy.

he's doing about a movie a year, sometimes 2 a year and has a busy slate coming up with a couple filming, a couple in pre-production and a couple in post.
