Evil Dead 4 rumored to actually be starting production

Jul. 12, 2011by: Paul Tassi

We haven't had an update on the promised new EVIL DEAD film in about six months now, and most would assume that such a thing would mean it isn't happening. But as it turns out, there is actual movement now on the fourth film, as according to Dread Central, production might actually be spooling up.

This comes from a report that longtime Sam Raimi editor Bob Murawaski (who did ARMY OF DARKNESS, SPIDER-MAN and DRAG ME TO HELL) has headed out to Detroit, MI to begin work on the "small indie" EVIL DEAD sequel, or prequel, or reboot. We're not exactly sure yet.

If that's not enough for you, taking to his recently created Twitter page this weekend, Bruce Campbell himself commented on the alleged film:

Bruce was questioned by a fan who stated, "I won't believe in a new Evil Dead film until I see it. Or at least not until @GroovyBruce tells me to believe in it," to which Campbell responded, "Believe in the remake, dawg! The project is real. In the works. Cool as hell. Scary as hell."

That would also seem to mean that he's definitely involved, which is obviously a must for any EVIL DEAD revisiting.

Will you be pumped for a fourth film?

i like the first one bc it's such an endeavor full of love for the genre and they did a lot with NOTHING...watch the film with the mindset that they had NOTHING to really use except random shit, or shit the filmmakers actually owned already...and it takes on a whole new meaning...it's full of so much ingenuity...if this comes together...it should be a love letter to the practical, fx films of back in the day...if it gets clogged with too much CG like drag me to hell...it loses all focus and

It's fate for some to create landmark films and become who they are today and then there's dread and humiliation that is fate that comes to those who tamper with that shit, leave this franchise alone. Move on.

Yeah, if they're gonna make it so, use actual special effects, not computer graphic. Best of the trilogy: Evil Dead 2.

The only Evil Dead sequel I wanna see is with Bruce as the lead again. Not just a cameo. Since this will not happen, I don't care.

Im a hugge bruce campbell/evil dead fan and I have no idea how to feel about this. One thing is for sure is that its not evil dead 4 but a remake/reboot (thats being reported on other sites) and that Sam Raimi is only producing it. I reallly do hope bruce does return as ash one more time.

First of all, "Evil Dead 4" isnt being made so the article isnt even fully correct. It's planned to be remake which blows entirely. A true Evil Dead enthusiast and fan wouldn't even want the film to be touched or meddled with. Another Evil Dead film or addition to the storyline would have been a good idea.

Do studios actually think a remake of Evil Dead would make more than a sequel? The fans are the only people who know about the franchise in the first place, so they'll be going to see it regardless and they will buy more versions and merchandize to a sequel opposed to a remake.

Horror fans are going to see it, it's not a mainstream brand so there's no reason to remake it.

Wow

If they get a move on (or even if they don't, frankly) they could go against Cabin In The Woods...

Tidbit: Impossible; love ED2 as horror/comedy, love AoD as comedy

I will accept nothing short of an Evil Dead featuring only Mr. Campbell, in all his middle-aged, deadite-shitkicking glory. Please keep your reboot scripts and Bruce-alikes locked away from our unspoiled eyes.

what about true grit, inglorious basterds, hell i''l even give it up to scarface. remakes are hard to get because most directors try to hard to recapture something instead of focusing on an engaging narrative

Hopefully this is a proper Evil Dead 4, with Bruce in the lead. Maybe it has something to do with why Danny Elfman came around on his opinion of Raimi. "Hey, Danny, if you score my crappy Oz movie, I'll let you score the 4th Dead flick...." One can hope.

Please, Please, Please!

I want another one, and not a remake or a reboot. Just a continuation, but years later starring Bruce Campbell as the Assistant Manager of S-Mart. That would be great. The world around him would be shit because all the evil that has come to his present time. Do it!

I think it might be a remake in the sense that Evil Dead 2 was partly a remake of Evil Dead.

Bruce Campbell will be back as Ash in this, in one way or another. (Personally I would love if it's like he plays an Old Ash sent back in time to fight with Young Ash.)

so it's a semi-remake of the semi-remake? or it's a remake of the original which was already remade? it all just sounds too stupid... the old Ash young Ash thing could work I guess... but I still want to see Campbell LEAD the picture, and not just be a supporting character

Bruce has gotten back into shape after doing that Burn Notice spin-off prequel. Maybe they can pull off the Star Trek reboot.
