Ewan McGregor has signed on to co-star with Hilary Swank in the upcoming Amelia Earhart biopic AMELIA. McGregor will be the basis for the stop-motion animated sea monster that leaps up from the depths of the Pacific to eat her plane. Hold on, I’m getting word that’s not exactly correct. Seems McGregor will play the less interesting role of Earhart’s man mistress (mister?) Gene Vidal. No word yet on who will play the sea monster. What? There’s no sea monster? What kinda Amelia Earhart biopic is this… Also cast in the film are Virginia Madsen, Richard Gere and Ebirah. McGregor is keeping himself busy working currently on I LOVE YOU PHILIP MORRIS with Jim Carrey and moving on to ANGELS AND DEMONS later this summer. He will squeeze in filming on AMELIA in between the two. Mira Nair (THE NAMESAKE) will direct for Fox Searchlight.
