EXCL: Jorma is Chaka!

Mar. 6, 2008by:

So we know who will be playing Marshall, Will and Holly in Universal's big LAND OF THE LOST adaptation (that would be Will Ferrell, Danny McBride and Anna Friel) but who will be playing their simian-like cavemen guide Cha-ka? JoBlo.com can exclusively report that HOT ROD and "Saturday Night Live" star Jorma Taccone has signed on to star as Cha-ka in the film. The movie would reunite Taccone with HOT ROD co-star Danny McBride (while Ferrell is producing McBride's upcoming comedy THE FOOT FIST WAY). Brad Silberling (LEMONY SNICKET) will direct the film, taking over for Adam McKay who had to drop out due to a scheduling conflict with STEP BROTHERS. As you might suspect, the film will follow the basic premise of the series with Ferrell starring as has-been scientist Rick Marshall who was sucked into a space vortex into an odd world with only his assistant Holly and a redneck survivalist (McBride) to assist him. Oh and then there's Cha-ka, one of the Pakuni beings who helps them fight off the Sleestak and find their way back home. Taccone is currently wrapping up this season of "Saturday Night Live" and will then report to Los Angeles to film his scenes likely under tons of prosthetics. LAND OF THE LOST just began filming in Los Angeles.

Extra Tidbit: Jorma dances backstage in his boxer shorts during the "SNL" musical segments. Really.

I'm still HATING what they're doing to "Land of the Lost."

Sure, it was a cheap, kids' series...but it was also a surprisingly intelligent, cheap, kids' series (like how the Sleestak, for example, devolved from a technologically advanced race into a bunch of primitive, superstitious nitwits) that was written by the likes of Larry Niven, Theodore Sturgeon and Ben Bova.

If Hollywood can respect a cartoon that was basically just a glorified commercial for a pre-existing line of toys

If Hollywood can respect a cartoon that was basically just a glorified commercial for a pre-existing line of toys ("Transformers") then why can't they also respect "Land of the Lost"?

To Waggy

He pops up every once in a while, but he's mainly one of the Writers. If he's ever on the show, it's normally as a random background character (or in a digital short. I KNOW he shows up at the end of "Lettuce").

You should just watch these (mainly Episode 2): [link]

Try and tell me these dudes aren't hilarious.

Am I watching the same SNL that this guy is on?

Never seen or heard of him before and I watch the show pretty much every week.

HURRAH!

I was a little bummed when I had heard that the characters of Will and Holly were being rewritten so that they weren't the son and daughter of Marshall. Casting Danny McBride was a good choice though with their deviation. Anna Friel is beyond entertaining in Pushing Daisies and now they add Jorma!!!! As Chaka!!!! Now they just have to cast Collie the miner and Enik(heh?). I'm beginning to like this project more and more.

Jorma in the 101 series "The Bu" was just fantastic and I TOO am

Jorma in the 101 series "The Bu" was just fantastic and I TOO am surprised he hasn't been at least bumped to Featured Player on SNL (they could really use him). Jorma was always my favorite from The Lonely Island, though I can understand that putting Andy on SNL was a safer bet for Lorne. Still, doesn't Jorma deserve his due?
