Exclusive 1:1 Interview: Sigourney Weaver talks Chappie!
I'll be honest, I don't usually get nervous during these press junkets; having done this thing for quite a while, I've long ago lost the capacity to be star-struck. However, there are exceptions: On this day I was meeting Sigourney Weaver. This is Ellen Ripley, this is Dana Barrett, this is Dian Fossey. I grew up genuinely admiring the actress, who always seemed to command every frame of film she was in with a fusion of strength, femininity and humanity. I'll mention again that she's Ellen Ripley. No joking matter.
In Neill Blomkamp's CHAPPIE, Weaver finds herself once again in the world of science-fiction, though her character is no action hero. Instead, she's the take-charge head of a corporation who cares only for the bottom line. I spoke to Weaver about her role in the film, working with her latest visionary director, if she sees the fantasy of CHAPPIE becoming a reality, and her return once again to the sci-fi genre.
