Exclusive 1:1 Interview with The Family stars Robert De Niro and Michelle Pfeiffer

Sep. 12, 2013by: Eric Walkuski

Robert De Niro and Michelle Pfeiffer. Does it get much more intimidating than that? I've chatted with plenty of celebrities during my time at the site, but I doubt I've ever been faced with two such imposing acting legends paired together. It's a good thing you can't see me sweat. (I have make-up on.)

In Luc Besson's THE FAMILY, De Niro and Pfeiffer play Fred and Maggie Blake, the heads of an American mafia family hiding out in France and attempting to adjust to life in a foreign country. That's difficult enough; attempting to act like normal, nonviolent people is even harder. Watch as I try my best not to shrink away from their combined star power and manage to ask them about their fairly nasty characters, building a bond with their fictional family, and whether or not they enjoy watching their own movies.

Good interview, good questions.

However, De Niro is always pretty miserable in interviews. I get that he's shy, but he doesn't really do a great job selling them, does he? Also, this movie currently has 33% on RT which is disappointing to say the least. I wish De Niro would just re-team with Scorsese already.

mob movies are for idiots

Enough with the mobster movies. Are these movies funded by actual mobsters? I can't figure out why else we might have been flooded with these movies starting in the 1970s or whenever they started. 1950s? If you think mobsters are cute and funny, just wait till one of these sacks of garbage messes with you. Maybe then you'll be less likely to suckle at the hollywood mobster movie teat, and more likely to avoid movies that glorify these sicko pieces of trash.
