There's plenty to nitpick when the film is really good, but not great. Kylo takes his mask off too early in the movie, making him less of a villain

Kylo Ren took his mask off one to many times. Kylo revealing his face when he's face-to-face with Han Solo was right. And having him fight without the mask in the finale was great. But having him take off his mask earlier when interrogating Rey, was not a smart move. The minute Kylo Ren takes off his mask he becomes less of a villain. Once the audience has a human face to put with the mask the villain look is gone. Kylo Ren looked a whole lot less evil without having the mask on while

It's like if Darth Vader removed his helmet to reveal what remains of his face in A New Hope, or during Empire Strikes Back, or halfway through Return of the Jedi, he instantly becomes less of a villain.

Other than the 'Engineer from Prometheus' being Kylo Ren's master, Edna Mode made a nice appearance too. lol

It's Funny how people nitpick little things..

..here and there in new movies, but will except those same mistakes in older films, simply because of nostalgia. EMPIRE is the only masterpiece in the ORIGINAL TRILOGY. A NEW HOPE is a hot mess of a film. Maybe in 1977 it was groundbreaking but there is so much wrong with it when you watch it now. Luke and Leia have no compassion whatsoever when loved ones perish. Vader is using the force through a video intercom. A rookie raised on a dessert planet destroys an entire moon sized Star Destroyer

A rookie raised on a dessert planet destroys an entire moon sized Star Destroyer by hitting it in the exact right spot with one shot, based off his swamp skills. I love STAR WARS, but I'm tired of people pointing out all the faults of anything STAR WARS New (Like the prequels) and putting the ORIGINALS on some perfect Mantle. My personal opinion is there were only three great STAR WARS films. The rest were just Good. EPISODES III, V & VII. Just my opinion.

Luke did not destroy the death star because of his swamp rat hunting skills but because of the force. Just saying. ;) But yeah, EMPIRE did filled much of the plotholes of NEW HOPE and pretty much made the whole Triology look so great.

To me they missed on Poe and Finn....

I loved the movie overall, but the two biggest letdowns were the two new guys. Finn's "awakening" wasn't handled well (he conveyed horror as to what was going on, but nothing about how he broke from their mind-conditioning or what he was feeling throughout). Also he had silly dialog for someone raised by a fascist military all his life. JJ should have had his speech patterns be more awkward to demonstrate his unfamiliarity with what normal people are like.

Poe's fight scenes were cool

Poe's fight scenes were cool (and I really loved his scene when he was captured), but it felt more like they were "telling" us how great and cool he was versus building him up so we could come to that conclusion ourselves. To be honest, there was no part of the movie where I cared if he lived or died. I'm seeing it again in 2-D (the 3-D dogfight scenes were mind-numbing) to see if I pick up more of his moves, but to me there was just something missing that kept me from caring about him.

I liked Ren & Rey's characters so much more because they felt organic with their skills and emotions.

Poe's character will be more prominent in Rogue One. He wasn't made to be the main focus in this movie by any means.

Well. FinnÅ› introduction worked for me. From the claustrophobic shot of him lined up with the other Stormtroopers on the dropship up to the moment he smeared the blood of his fallen comrade over his helmet. I think the actor made you really feel the desperation and fear of his character. And Poe was absent most of the time which helped deepen the bound between Finn and Rey and focus on their relationship but weakened his own character arc. Rogue One is set before the first Death Star was destroyed, so no Poe there. His parents, maybe.

I liked how they did Phasma

I thought it was cool how there was so much build to Captain Phasma and then there's really very little done with the character. Just like Boba Fett.

Where were all these whiners when Boba Fett fell into the Sarlac pit?

c-3po

leading up to the movie, one question that i had (of many) was, "why does c-3po have a red arm now?"... ah- to make a one line joke. nice.

Agreed. That was pretty random if it only amounted to a joke.

I wish they would have left both bots out of this one. The contortions they've had to put this franchise through to make it possible for the same two robots to be involved in every important scene and fight in the movies has been detrimental. Both are one-joke characters, so are beyond tired. If nothing else, they could have done that "R2-D2 in shutdown mode" for this film, but it appears they're going to ride the one-joke train for all 9 movies, which is a really poor idea. The movie is

Nit pick

Two big missed opportunities for me was there should have been a good 30 seconds of berserker chewie. Just chewie unchained flinging storm troopers around. Also, not using Chewie as the one to convey the emotion of loss to Leia makes no sense to me. He's been bro's with Han for 60 years and he just walks passed her like he's on his way to the bathroom. Again, just nit picks, but man, if only.

Maybe he was too distraught to care. Also because she never gave him that medal.

Well, Chewie did do take out 3-4 Stormtroopers in succession after blasting Kylo Ren, so there was certainly a response.I agree there should've been a better mourning scene for Han. It didn't need to be a Padme-style funeral, but something a bit more elaborate to convey the impact of his loss. Perhaps we'll see something like that in Episode VIII.
