It wouldn't be a Tom Cruise movie without a series of outrageous stunts and a sprinkling of international locations, and we'll be getting a healthy helping of each in Alex Kurtzman's THE MUMMY. Thought to be safely entombed deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient princess (Sofia Boutella) is mistakenly awakened by Nick Morton (Tom Cruise) and sets out to unleash terrors across the globe which defy human comprehension. With just a week to go before THE MUMMY hits theaters, Universal has released several featurettes which explore the stunts and global locations found in this introduction to the studio's new Dark Universe.

I haven't been totally blown away by what we've seen from THE MUMMY so far, but I'm attempting to remain optimistic. Who knows, at the very least there could be an entertaining flick buried beneath the generic trailers. Universal must be keeping their fingers crossed that audiences will turn up for THE MUMMY, if only to justify continuing onwards with their rebooted Universal Monster's universe. The studio's press-release last week confirmed which element will be binding these films together: Dr. Henry Jekyll's (Russell Crowe) mysterious Prodigium organization.

At its organizing principle, Dark Universe films are connected by a mysterious multi-national organization known as Prodigium.  Led by the enigmatic and brilliant Dr. Henry Jekyll, Prodigium’s mission is to track, study and—when necessary—destroy evil embodied in the form of monsters in our world.  Working outside the aegis of any government, and with practices concealed by millennia of secrecy, Prodigium protects the public from knowledge of the evil that exists just beyond the thin membrane of civilized society…and will go to any length to contain it.

THE MUMMY will hit theaters on June 9th.
