Ticketer company Fandango wants you to save even more time, and a tiny bit of paper as well. Since most humans now go everywhere equipped with a cellphone, they can also use that pocket device to gain entry into theaters. And hey, you can use the same gadget to record a copy to watch later! (No wait, don't do that.)

Not sure why they didn't call it Fonedango, but here’s how it works:

Fandango, the nation's leading moviegoer destination, is unveiling a new convenience for film fans, where they can get movie tickets sent as barcodes to their mobile phones.

Fandango is rolling out its "Mobile Ticket" program in eight markets around the country, with more markets to come. The benefit is that moviegoers can simply take their mobile phones straight to theater ticket-takers, who scan the phones’ barcodes, allowing customers to bypass the box office windows and kiosks.

Fandango's Mobile Ticket works with most mobile carriers, and does not require a smart phone. The program is rolling out to more than 100 screens in the Reading Cinemas circuit, including:

· New York: City Cinemas 1, 2 & 3, Angelika Film Center, East 86th Street Cinemas, Village East Cinema, Beekman Theatre, The Paris Theatre.
· New Jersey: Manville 12 Plex.
· Houston: Angelika Film Center.
· Dallas/Plano: Angelika Dallas; Angelika Plano.
· San Diego: La Mesa Grossmont Center, Clairemont Town Square Stadium.
· Bakersfield: Valley Plaza 16.
· Sonoma County: Rohnert Park 16.
· Hawaii: Ward Stadium, Kahala Theater, Kapolei 16, Mililani Stadium.

"We've already seen success in the mobile space with our variety of apps for the iPhone, Android, Blackberry, Palm and others," says Rick Butler, Chief Operating Officer of Fandango. "We know that Mobile Ticket will be one more Fandango convenience that moviegoers will enjoy. Our cell phones are with us all the time – so what better way to ensure you have your movie ticket?"

"Reading Cinemas is honored to work with an innovative company like Fandango," said Terri Moore, Vice President of Theater Operations for Reading Cinemas' Western division. "Fandango's Mobile Ticket is extremely convenient and our customers really enjoy being on the cutting edge of this new technology."

Um.
You stub collectors can probably rest assured that a ticket will still be printed. When you print your tickets at home, they still give you a stub at the theatre entrance for reentry. Cool your jets.

Why save the stubs?
Is it to much to ask to actually try and remember the movie you saw? Are you going to show your grand kids? It's not Woodstock, lose the stubs kids!

Fuck off dickhole. Its just someting we like to collect. That's like telling a bottlecap collector to just remember the pop he drank. I'm sure there's something you collect? Collections are special to the people who have them for their own reasons.

Good Idea
This is a good idea, will have to agree with Ocelot_Snake though, the Kiosks were pretty nice, but this could be good. I would like to see each movie has a different barcode and you just bring up the app and scan the phone then it automatically charges your account. That would be pretty cool. As for the previous posts to those that save the ticket stub.........why the hell would you do that,...

I have every ticket for every movie i've seen since 2002 safely tucked away. I'd hate to not have them anymore. However, it is good that their not wasting paper as most people chuck them right away. Now if only the buses can save paper somehow with their transfer tickets..

It would suck to not be able to collect the stubs as I do, but it's a great idea that can save a lot of paper. Good for Fandango.

It's actually a really good idea, but I'm one of those people who keeps/collects their movie ticket stubs. So, no thanks.
