Fast and Furious Six and RIPD already have release dates

The engines haven’t cooled yet on FAST FIVE, and Universal was preparing a sequel before Vin Diesel and crew even peeled into theaters at the end of April. Now the studio has picked a prime parking space for FAST SIX (or whatever it will be called) — May 24, 2013.

No word yet on what exactly the sexquel (or whatever you want to call the sixth in a series) will entail, but all the principals and their heavy feet should be back for more excessive velocity as the franchise reportedly heads into more of a heist formula. FAST THREE through FIVE writer Chris Morgan is already working on a script.

Universal had tentatively scheduled the Ron Howard adaptation of Stephen King’s THE DARK TOWER for May 17, 2013, but that’s starting to seem unlikely to happen considering its budget concerns and now the placement of the next FAST entry.

Meanwhile, Universal has also selected a date of June 28, 2013 for their supernatural action-comedy R.I.P.D., which stars Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges. RED director Robert Schwentke and producer Neal Moritz (THE FAST AND THE FURIOUSes) are bringing the Dark Horse comic to life.

The comic synopsis: “Welcome to the Rest In Peace Department — the devoted, yet dead, officers of divine law enforcement “patrolling the deadbeat…reporting to one boss.” Yep — THAT boss. Nick Cruz was murdered by an unknown assailent, at the height of his personal and professional life. Now he’s traded a hundred years of service to the R.I.P.D. in exchange for a shot at finding who killed him. Unfortunately his search will take him to Hell and back — literally!
