Fast Five director Justin Lin’s adaptation of manga Lone Wolf and Cub gains traction

An adaptation of the manga LONE WOLF AND CUB was one of the many projects director Justin Lin attached himself to in the wake of the resounding success that was FAST FIVE, and though he is currently prepping FAST SIX/FAST SEVEN (or whatever they’ll be called) LONE WOLF AND CUB might find itself his next project.

While still attached to a new movie in the Terminator franchise his involvement may or may not be terminated if the producers become too impatient with Lin’s FAST SIX/FAST SEVEN shooting schedule, which leaves LONE WOLF AND CUB as a solid follow-up possibility.  The story is “set in the feudal Edo period, and chronicles the story of Ogami Itto, the Shogun’s elite executioner. In an attempt to take his position, the rival Yagyu clan falsely accuses Itto of a crime and murders his wife. Disgraced, Itto is forced to wander Japan with his three-year-old son Daigoro as an assassin for hire, earning the title “Lone Wolf and Cub.” Ultimately, Itto and Daigoro seek revenge on the Yagyu clan.”

Scribes David and Janet Peoples have been hired to write the screenplay, with their last collaboration being 12 MONKEYS and David’s solo work including such scripts as BLADE RUNNER and UNFORGIVEN.  So yeah, they kind of know what they’re doing.  “I’ve long admired the Peoples and their enduring body of work,” said Lin of his writers.  “They’re a wonderful match for Lone Wolf and Cub and I’m really looking forward to collaborating with them on this powerful, epic tale.”
