FilmDistrict has acquired rights to Anne Rice's Christ the Lord

2 years agoby:

After moving away from R.L. Stine and Christopher Pike books in my early teens, I was looking for something else to read. I often went through my mom's books, and she had everything from Stephen King to S.E. Hinton. One author that stood out to me because of the movie version of one of her novels was Anne Rice. Discovering her writing put me on a new literary path. I devoured her novels on vampires and the supernatural. Then shortly after reading "Vittorio the Vampire" I moved on to Chuck Palahniuk.

It was interesting to hear in 1998 that Rice who was a long time atheist had returned to Roman Catholicism (she renounced Christianity in 2010). Out of this came a new book called "Christ the Lord: Out of Egypt". The story was a fictionalized account of Jesus as a young boy, and his journey of discovering his purpose and identity.

Today it was announced that FilmDistrict would be acquiring the US distribution rights to a movie adaptation of CHRIST THE LORD. Cyrus Nowrasteh will direct the script that he and his wife Betsy Nowrasteh penned. The next move is to find an actor to play the young Jesus.

The film is set to release in March of 2015.

Anne Rice looks exactly like the type of woman who'd write the books Anne Rice writes.

Why couldn't this have been Christopher Moore's LAMB instead? Tackles the same subject but it's a lot funnier and more insightful.

No thanks!

Anne Rice is an absolute hack; I actually read quite a few of her "novels" in my teens and they are pure trash. As for this plot; there is a very unique novel called "Lamb: The Gospel of Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal" by Christopher Moore. It is a tongue and cheek version of Christ's "lost years" told by his childhood friend Biff. It is a surprisingly funny and light hearted take on a very serious subject to many people. This is the book that studios should be developing into a film rather

This is the book that studios should be developing into a film rather then anything from Anne Rice! If you haven't, checkout "Lamb" it is a pretty fast read and will keep you interested throughout (even though we already know the ending).

I absolutely agree. That book is fantastic. Moore's "Henry V" spoof "Fool" is also an amazing read.

Her "Interview" books are clever, but I really don't like any of her other stuff. And I feel like in any case, her writing has failed to stay relevant in this day and age. Even if this book is one of her good ones - don't know, haven't read it - I have little faith that its quality will be maintained on film, so even that isn't saying much.
