Filming starts today for X-Men: DOFP and Bryan Singer is Tweeting about it with this image of Patrick Stewart

Apr. 15, 2013by: Jesse Giroux

X-Men

Are you sure you're ready Bryan Singer? There isn't a dozen and a half more people you need to cast for the film or anything?

The director made the announcement on his Twitter account that filming on X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST will start filming today and he included an image of Patrick Stewart in his Xavier costume. Bryan Singer also Tweeted another image a couple of days ago that I've included that looks suspiciously like Cerebro.

X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST looks like it's going to be an absolutely massive movie. I know people are concerned about how many mutants will appear in the film but since most of these characters have been established in the previous films the focus can be on the plot for the movie and the X-Men trying to stop the future from becoming a nightmare. That doesn't mean there doesn't need to be character development and moments for each superhero to shine, but it does mean there should be more time for that since they don't really need to explain why Magneto acts the way he does or how Beast ended up with fur.

Starring (deep breath) Jennifer Lawrence, Peter Dinklage, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Hugh Jackman, Nicholas Hoult, Halle Berry, Ian McKellen, Ellen Page, Anna Paquin, Shawn Ashmore, Patrick Stewart, Daniel Cudmore and Omar Sy, X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST is out July 18th, 2014.

Extra Tidbit: Do you think X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST can surpass what THE AVENGERS accomplished in how they combined the different characters for one film or is it just going to be a giant mess?

jacket ...

The jacket looks like what X wore in cartoon Wolverine and the xmen. In that same story line he had a rig to let him run and evade sentinels. Wonder if that will exist here. Wheelchair is a real buzzkill for action. Specially since his powers do t work on robots. Would be nice to have Stewart running around while mcavoy broods in chair

I have faith due to . . .

X2.

I'm not worried about what "The Last Stand" did, because (as far as I'm concerned) it doesn't count. I'm not worried about what Singer did to Superman, because that hero had a totally different tone as to what the X-Men universe has. I'm not going to defend what Singer did with Superman, because it was what it was and I didn't enjoy it, but it was a totally different world. I don't think he'll make the same mistake twice. I'd even go so far as to say that he is going to redeem

I'll save my worries until the trailer comes out.

I guess with all the (justified) bellyaching (pun intended) about Halle Berry, we just done plum forgot that Patrick Stewart was in this movie.

ALL HAIL PATRICK STEWART!

About Cyclopse and Jean Grey

I have a feeling that having them return will be a critical plot point in the movie, and therefore they probably won't be announced in the cast in order to surprise the audience. Sadly, this means that they won't get a lot of screen time again (probably an extended cameo at the end of the movie), but at least they will appear. I'd like to see cyclopse get more screen time, but after X3 there's not an easy way to do that in the story, other than what Singer seems to be doing with the time-travel

I'm wondering, and I'm sure it's been said before, if they are going to use the time travel trope to somehow "fix" the continuity errors in the series this far... Maybe not call complete attention to the errors, but reconnecting dots subtlety.

Where the hell am I?

Let's see...I count 6 Schmoes below that have questioned my absence/requested my presence...I think it's only fair you give it to them. ;)

WTF

We need Cyclops! Still excited and scared at the same time, kind of like that feeling you get when you go on a roller coaster, you have the build up and then all you can hope is that it doesn't suck with you shitting [link]

I dont want to jump to conclusions, but Prof X. jacket looks like a good step in a dark future. Can't wait to see Singer Tweet any news about Fassbender or McAvoy.

Still worried Bryan has hijacked X-Men and is dragging it back to his image. Instead of continuing Mathew's vision. But time will tell naturally. With all the casting too - I'm worried we won't get to see Fassbender in all his glory as a young Magneto. I am so excited to see him in his prime. I really hope we're not cheated out of that.

Matthew Vaughn still wrote the script. I imagine Singer adjusted the script for whichever actor could sign up to reprise their role. But don't worry, I bet it'll still have Vaughn's touch throughout.

Totally agree. Fassbender is the real draw here. It's cool that they got Jackman back to play Wolverine, but Fassbender going full Magneto is the ball game.

What I don't understand.

Why people have been coming down on Singer and this movie. Not too long ago X3 came out and we all complained. It's not the same, it needed Singer, it was a big mis-step, etc, etc.

And now Singer returns, we're actually getting a genuine X4 (something we all thought was off the cards after the First Class "re-boot"), there's ample opportunity to make up for mistakes of the past and to send the original series out on a bang instead of a whimper. PLUS we're getting a sequel to First Class which

PLUS we're getting a sequel to First Class which is a franchise that may still have legs after this movie is over.

Other than the possibility of it being crap (which is a possibility EVERY movie has) I don't see a downside to any of this.

I think that probably the downside is that people have lost a little faith in Bryan Singer since X2. After all, he ditched the X-men and gave us the universally reviled Superman Returns. Don't get me wrong, I'm really hoping this movie is good... it's just that Singer is really going to have to deliver. Hence the trepidation.

Welcome back Patrick Stewart. How good it is to see your bald head again.

And I'm still disappointed with the fact that there is no Cyclops or Jean Grey in this film. Unless Singer is holding out on us.

I don't know how you could realistically bring them back after the cinematic abortion of X3. But Xavier is back so who knows?

It will be gigantic, yes, but I don't think it's The Avengers type of movie. At least this is still the X-Men universe. And that's probably Professor X in some form of time travelling costume. Just venture a guess.

I'll join other and say this film needs Cyclops, he 's an integral part of xmen and pretty much got shafted in all the other movies. If all the solid foundation members of the team are there, then i'll get excited.

Agreed. Cyclops is the bomb. He quickly jumped up to my favorite X-Man during Joss Whedon's Astonishing run.

Extra Tidbit

I don't think this will be an Avengers level movie, but I think it will be an awesome one. People are complaining about the Jack the Giant Slayer movie, but he was forced to do that film, he didn't want to. These are his passion. We just need Cyclops back and give him something to do this time!

optimistic

Tidbit: I think the answer to that question will be decided with the film's runtime (xmen 1 and x2 were both 2 + hour films, x3 90 mins), if there's enough time in the film, really hopin the over 2 hour mark, then there should be enough time for everyone.

I have a feeling that this film will focus on a few mutants, and everyone else is there to populate the world that they are creating (using supporting characters that are legitimate characters of the X-Men universe). If they try to focus on too many mutants it will feel overcrowded.
