Finally! MGM sets start date and November, 2012 release for Bond 23

Just when you thought it might never happen, MGM announced today that director Sam Mendes will begin filming later this year on BOND 23 for a November 9, 2012 release date. There were rumors in early December that the latest James Bond film was mobilizing and nearing a deal to get started but there have been plenty of rumors about the James Bond franchise that never panned out.

As previously reported, the script for the film was written by Neal Purvis, Robert Wade and John Logan and is being kept under tight lock and key. Not much about the film is known at all, except know we know that there will be a film after all.

One of the things still left up in the air is whether MGM will still be around to distribute the films. While Sony Pictures worked on both CASINO ROYALE and QUANTUM OF SOLACE, their deal ended and BOND 23 may be looking for a new distributor. Sony would make the most obvious choice but Warner Bros. and Paramount (who has a relationship with Spyglass, who’s financing the film) could jump in and make negotiations interesting.

It’s going to be a very Daniel Craig 2011 with COWBOYS & ALIENS, THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO and DREAM HOUSE all scheduled for release next year. The BOND 23 filming schedule takes into account all the filming and promotional obligations Craig has in the year ahead.

So now can we immediately begin speculating on who the next Bond girl will be?
