I don't know exactly how long David Fincher has been working on a HEAVY METAL reboot but it's been at least two years or so. He's long had the interest of numerous directors in Hollywood to contribute to the anthology series but so far no studio or financier has bit on footing the cost. That may be about to change.

Fincher, James Cameron and Zack Snyder have all agreed to direct segments in the film, which is now set up as a 3D animated film. Fincher and his reps are currently shopping the revised project to the studios and hoping to get production underway soon.

This new version of HEAVY METAL isn't expected to hew very closely to the original 1981 film except that it will contain the same erotic and violent flourishes. While I was never a huge fan of the original or its predecessing comic series, now seems like a perfect time to get a HEAVY METAL film off the ground. You've the talent locked in and the technology isn't nearly as expensive as it was a few years ago when Fincher had this project set up at Paramount. Whether a new studio will bite remains to be seen but I wouldn't be surprised if Fincher's home studio, Paramount, takes another good hard look.

The first one was the bomb. The second one was crap. I hope they get a third one going to make up for the lousy second one.

Has everyone just forgotten that James Cameron was awesome long before he did Avatar. The man's got one of the most consistent track records in hollywood and yet everyone seems to like taking shots at him over Avatar being overrated. Overrated it might have been, but the film was still pretty kick ass even without the never ending hype.

sounds awesome.

don't care for the overhyped cameron, but fincher and snyder.. two of the most visionary guys there are (no cameron isn't, he may be technic wise, but not visual wise). cool stuff.

I do enjoy the first two movies and with today's technology and visionary directors this could be awesome.

Is pretty much a Heavy Metal live action movie. Given the talent, I'm eager to see it, whatever it is.

Never seen the original but know of it's importance on our culture and cinema. I agree Zack Snyder should direct a remake with Tarantino, Robert Rodriguez, and Fincher and maybe even David Cronenberg all stepping in to do short stories. Imagine how insanely erotic/violent that'd be.

Awesome with a captial f#cking A!
"Heavy Metal" was a very important movie during my childhood and it'll always hold a special place in my heart.

This is fantastic news that such talented directors are breathing new life into it.

"THE LOC-NAR IS MINE!"

"STUPID BITCH...GET AWAY FROM ME!"

Yeah couldn't agree more about Snyder doing a live action version...but who the hell knows, maybe his animation will be just as kick-ass. Couldn't be more excited for the potential.

Hmm sounds cool but I would love to see Zack Snyder direct a live action version of a Heavy Metal remake. That's got his name written all over it.
