Synopsis:

Magic, monsters, gods and madness reign throughout the palaces and pyramids of the Nile River Valley in this action-adventure inspired by the classic mythology of Egypt. With the survival of mankind hanging in the balance, an unexpected hero takes a thrilling journey to save the world and rescue his true love. Set (Gerard Butler), the merciless god of darkness, has usurped Egypt’s throne, plunging the once peaceful and prosperous empire into chaos and conflict. With only a handful of heroic rebels opposing Set’s savage rule, Bek (Brenton Thwaites), a bold and defiant mortal, enlists the aid of powerful god Horus (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) in an unlikely alliance against the evil overlord. As their breathtaking battle against Set and his henchmen take them into the afterlife and across the heavens, both god and mortal must pass tests of courage and sacrifice if they hope to prevail in the spectacular final confrontation.

GODS OF EGYPT is due in theaters on February 26, 2016.

What's with all the sudden negativity?

Alex Proyas is a fine director, I like the Egyptian-setting, and it has good actors. So I am interested in seeing this, even if most of you guys aren't.

If this wasn't about the Gods of Egypt then those actors would be fine. But particularly Twaites, Butler, and Coster-Waldau strike me as extreme whitewashing.

The Gods being white washed? Um aren't they being human washed? Like Horus is a falcon or something...

Chill out guys! The only thing that actually looks bad about this is the February release date, but Kingsmen came out in February and proved that good movies can still be dumped in the early months

HoyleHaw, what skin-color did the ancient Egyptians had? I really don't know.
The director, Alex Proyas himself is Egyptian and has white skin.

White gods?

Since when are Egyptians white? Like Exodus before it, whitewashing another culture doesn't equal box-office success.

How many Egyptian actors are there? Egyptians weren't white, but they weren't black either, I honestly don't know who should've been cast.

You can certainly find someone, that's what casting directors are for. "How many Egyptian actors are there?", its like what the executives said too... ahh fuck it, hire some white people

It doesn't equal box office success no, but it most certainly equals a much higher potential of being a box office success than hiring say, actual Egyptian actors. It's sad, but it's true. It's not the studio's fault -- blame the people (the audiences). The people have shown their support in the past time and time again and this is only following that tried and true and logical supply and demand model.

Did Hollywood learn nothing from the backlash over Exodus: Gods And Kings? I can safely say I hadn't heard one single word about this film before this article and nothing about it looks remotely interesting.
