First Dark Tower poster teases new worlds to be seen

03.19.2017

This year we'll finally get to see the long-gestating THE DARK TOWER, a movie that’s production was seemingly cursed by an ancient Mayan trickster god after producer Ron Howard decided to make INFERNO. But the crew was able sacrifice a few lambs, and now we will see the finished product on July 28. That’s not that far away in movie time, and we have yet to see any trailers, teasers, bus ads or whatever. However, today we bring you a gift…the gift of the very first poster.

The first thing that came to my mind after seeing this was that one INCEPTION teaser poster (and any that followed) and most anything from DOCTOR STRANGE, what with the whole tilited-and-or-upside-down city thing. For a first poster I guess it’s okay. I would’ve liked more distinguishable Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey, but considering we have gotten almost nothing for this movie, I’ll take anything.

Get ready to gaze upon THE DARK TOWER on July 28 with Idris Elba, Matthew McConaughey, Katheryn Winnick, Jackie Earle Haley and more

This is a pretty good poster for the film. Given the themes and plots, I'd say it captures the nature of the story pretty well. Took me a few views before I noticed Matthew McConaughey at the top of the page, nice touch. But who is the masked dude to the left? They must be getting ready to release a trailer pretty soon, the release date is getting pretty close.

I've never read the books (I've come to realize that I actually don't like King that much as a writer, even though I love a ton of the authors who influenced him), but I'm stoked they're finally making the movie nonetheless. I'm also stoked that Nikolaj Arcel is directing rather than Howard. I just saw "A Royal Affair" and it's pretty flipping good, combine that with Elba and McConaughey and I've got pretty high hopes.

Who is...

...the masked figure to the side of Martin? Too early for a Wolf of the Calla I would think. Not Eddie. Looks more like an extra League of Assassins from Arrow lol.

Love it.

This is great. I love all the little details, too. As someone who has read the series numerous times, I'm really looking forward to the direction they're taking this in.

I'm still confused about how this film relates to the books, since I'm about halfway through the 4th book in the series. Is this film based on the first book, or are they combining elements from all the books into this movie?

It's a pretty loose adaptation. There are characters in this movie that don't appear until the last two books. There are other things that hint at this movie's time frame in regards to the books, but to go into them would spoil the books.

I would definitely say finish the books before reading anything more about the movie.

Yeah, I've been avoiding most news about this movie to keep from any spoilers. Hoping I can finish the books before the movie is released.

Definitely avoid everything you can about this movie until you've read the books. I've read the series and all the connecting books many times, so I'm looking forward to the direction they're going in with the movie. It makes sense to me. Enjoy the rest of the series! I wish I could reread them again for the first time.

They are actually saying its a continuation of the novels, which will make sense once you finish the books. It can even explain the race change of the main character, Ka is a wheel. Roland will be starting this film with a particular item he acquires at the end of the books. Pretty cool stuff.

Well damn Mr. Kurtz, that's somewhat of a revealing spoiler. Don't ruin this guy's enjoyment of the series, lol.
