First image from Takashi Shimizu’s 7500 featuring Ryan Kwanten and cast

The first image from Takashi Shimizu’s (The Grudge)new supernatural thriller 7500 has popped up online and features a shocked-looking cast staring at…something shocking.

The film stars Ryan Kwanten (True Blood), Amy Smart (CRANK), Jerry Ferrara (Entourage), Nicky Whelan (Scrubs), and Scout Taylor-Compton (Rob Zombie’s HALLOWEEN films), looking way more grunge than her typical “wholesome” appearance.

“It’s a haunted house movie on an airplane,” says Kwanten.“I play a character who is having a very rough time in his marriage. It’s on the rocks and they’re in the last weeks really. They’re taking the trip only because their best friends prepaid for these tickets. They’re doing it as a favor.”

So, what can we expect in terms of supernatural thrills? Kwanten goes on to say, “the passengers must choose to [either] band together or become loose cannons and start looking out for themselves. It’s a survival-of-the-fittest type thing,” he says. “We deal with our problems and conflicts of the past and try to find a way to overcome that,” Kwanten says.

Sounds pretty cool in a nice, high-concept way, which isn’t a bad thing. Director Takashi Shimizu is the big sell here, as he’s got the vision and edge for creating some truly chilling, horrific moments, especially in the supernatural realm. I mean, if Asian girls making a weird clicking/groaning noise up in your attic doesn’t scare you, I don’t know what will.

7500 is schedule for take off on August 31st, 2012.
