First image of Rupert Friend as Agent 47 in Fox’s Hitman reboot

Filming has begun on AGENT 47, and with it comes this first image from the reboot featuring Rupert Friend as the title character. Timothy Olyphant played Agent 47 in the 2007 film, and Paul Walker was set to star as the bald assassin before his tragic death in November. HOMELAND star Rupert Friend signed on for the part last month, and now IGN has a first look at him as the character.

Yup, looks like Agent 47 to me:

AGENT 47 is being helmed by first-time director Aleksander Bach from a script by Kyle Ward (MACHETE KILLS), Skip Woods (SABOTAGE, A GOOD DAY TO DIE HARD), and Michael Finch (PREDATORS). Besides Friend, the film will also star Zachary Quinto, Hannah Ware, and Emilio Rivera.

Can I just ask one question? Who the hell asked for a HITMAN reboot? The film was pummeled by critics when it was released (14% at Rotten Tomatoes), and while it did make almost $100 million at the box office, less than $40 million of its gross came from U.S. theaters. Obviously there are plenty of fans of the video games and maybe it sold well on DVD and Blu-ray, but was it really enough to warrant a remake?

I'm bitching right now, but if the trailer looks decent, I'll probably still check out AGENT 47. I know some of the people involved don't inspire much confidence, however maybe we'll be in for a surprise when the reboot hits theaters. Maybe.

AGENT 47 currently doesn't have a release date, but it will probably open sometime in 2015.
