First official look at Johnny Depp in David Koepp’s spy comedy Mortdecai

The past few years haven't been great for Johnny Depp, with DARK SHADOWS and THE LONE RANGER both underperforming at the box office, and TRANSCENDENCE being a complete bomb. But one upcoming project starring the actor I'm excited for is MORTDECAI, David Koepp's new film based on Kyril Bonfiglioli's book anthology The Mortdecai Trilogy.

The first official image from MORTDECAI has been released, featuring Johnny Depp sporting a handle bar mustache and slicked back blonde hair as the titular character.

Take a look:

Synopsis:

Juggling some angry Russians, the British MI5, his impossibly leggy wife, and an international terrorist, debonair art dealer and part-time rogue Charlie Mortdecai (Depp) must traverse the globe armed only with his good looks and special charm in a race to recover a stolen painting rumored to contain the code to a lost bank account filled with Nazi gold.

Not a big Johnny Depp fan? Well there are plenty of other great actors appearing in MORTDECAI. The film also stars Ewan McGregor, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jeff Goldblum, Oliver Platt, Aubrey Plaza, Olivia Munn, Paul Bettany and Ulrich Thomsen.

I think MORTDECAI could be a fun little film, although movies from director David Koepp tend to be hit (STIR OF ECHOES) or miss (SECRET WINDOW). Still, I think MORTDECAI has a ton of potential, and I'm very interested in checking out the first trailer for Johnny Depp and David Koepp's new movie.

MORTDECAI is scheduled to be released on February 6th, 2015.
