First look at Benicio Del Toro as Pablo Escobar in Paradise Lost

07.02.2013

Hey guys, remember that time that Benicio Del Toro decided to put on some shades, grow a mustache, and call himself Pablo Escobar? I know he looks like that all the time but in PARADISE LOST he's playing Escobar.

The first look at Del Toro as the Colombian drug lord who is a little more sophisticated here trying out some amateur photography while wearing all white. The nice thing about PARADISE LOST is that it isn't a biopic about Escobar it centers around a young couple played by Josh Hutcherson and Claudia Traisac:

Young surfer Nick thinks all his dreams have come true when he goes to visit his brother in Columbia. Against an idyllic backdrop of blue lagoons and white beaches he falls madly in love with a beautiful Colombian girl called Maria. It all seems perfect until he meets her uncle, one Pablo Escobar.

Could be something worthwhile. Everyone has been trying to get an Esobar biopic off the ground, and this seems to be a good medium. I've included a set video below. It's in French. I'm sorry.

Why call it Paradise Lost?

I have been waiting and hoping someone with a great vision in Hollywood would finally make 'Paradise Lost' by John Milton as a movie. Now I'm hearing it's going to be a movie with a drug dealer as a sub plot. Please, for the love of God, please someone talk them out of calling it that and let that name stand until someone has enough balls to make Milton's epic into a movie. Get Spielberg to appeal to them. Don't call your drug dealer movie 'Paradise Lost', I'm begging you.

I feel the exact same way. And it's so obnoxiously pretentious to title your original story after a classic of literature anyway. I REALLY hope they change it.

Agreed. The title could have been anything, why choose one that'll easily confuse the general population and upset fans of the epic poem? I really do hope that Hollywood will one day give Proyas the budget he needs to make the movie happen.

Another melodramatic teen-lovers-in-peril movie. No thanks. I would stand in line to see a good director make a biopic of Escobar starring BDT. This isn't it.
