First look at Colin Farrell with fangs in Fright Night

4 years agoby:

Amidst all the reboots currently in production in Hollywood, it's easy to let a few slip through your memory cracks, and I was reminded today that FRIGHT NIGHT is being remade with Colin Farrell as the vampire next door. This is your first look at shots from the film that show some people only get better looking with fangs.

Also starring and pictured are Anton Yelchin, Chris Mintz-Plasse and Imogen Poots. Check out those shots below, and speculate on whether or not this will be worthwhile, or just another vampire movie log to throw on the seemingly endless fire.

"Don't worry, vampires only like plain looking girls who bite their lip and have one facial expression."

"Call me McLovin...one more time!"

Extra Tidbit: I'm so mature, I can't say "Imogen Poots" without laughing. Try it.

Still-pics of vampires in film lately just look hilarious. The cast of True Blood with their teeth out looks like a cheesy soap opera instead of menacing.. same for that pic.

Fantastic cast though.. I'm intrigued.

Love Farell and the rest of the cast. Also is it me or does that picture of Plasse look digital?

Sarandon's "old world" Dandrige is going to be a TOUGH act to follow, but am interested to see Farrell's take...(even though this didn't need a remake) "You're so cool Brewster."

Actually sort of excited for this...

... Farrell is usually a good time, but mostly can't wait to see David Tennant take the piss out of Criss Angel...

Everyone looks the part pretty well, I think. Ferrel looks like he's going a more vicious route rather than replicating the original performance. It could be good.

These are atrocious stills.

I don't think they'll be indicative of the quality of the final film, but these stills look awful. It looks like poorly-lit HD video instead of a professional shoot, and while I realize they're shooting on digital for 3D, cinematographers have made HD look good for years - why does this look as bad as "ivansXTC"?

Let's be honest here.

If there's a movie that fits the "it should be remade" criteria. It's Fright Night. It's REALLY dated, and an update with some cool people is ok with me.

How's it dated? If it's dated, I can name a million movies, including Jaws, that are also dated and deserving of remakes.

Since when is a movie being dated a good excuse for a retread?

Planet of the Apes was dated, but the Burton retread blew smelly chunks, as most retreads inevitably do.

Remake

I'm typically against reboots and remakes but I think they should bring Highlander back.

Maybe I'm being ignorant or stubborn, but how can a fan of the original be excited about this?

Ok, so it's not replacing the original... I know. But it's just so unfortunate seeing such awesome films like Fright Night (in the 80s where it belongs) being treaded over with remade mediocrity.

For now on, I'm not going to refer to any remakes as "remakes". I'll call them extensions. Extensions of something better (for most cases) and not contenders for original equality.

I'm a huge fan of the original Fright Night and normally I'd be put off by a project like this, but just the thought of McLovin as Evil Ed and David Tennant as Peter Vincent has me excited.

Holy crap, pictures other than that one of Peter Vincent from months back actually acknowledging this movie's existence. Maybe now DreamWorks will stop barricading and put out a damn trailer. Scream 4's a good time.

hmmmm

It doesn't seem to have the teenybopper thing going, or a cast from Gosspi Girl, or any WB shows, so I am looking forward to it.

Surprisingly good cast for a horror remake,

This remake doesn't bother me so much. The only real misstep, I think, is making the Peter Vincent character a Criss Angel-like phony magician. Why would Brewster go to a magician to help him fight a vampire? But they don't have horror 'creature feature' shows on TV anymore so I guess they had to change the Peter Vincent character to something other than a TV host.

How about this: the Peter Vincent character could've been a phony "ghost hunter" who has a TV show. Hell, there's like a

Oh and I loved Amanda Bearse in the original. It's a shame she went on to be most well-known as the annoying neighbor on "Married With children".
