First look at Edgar Wright's 'Scott Pilgrim' pictures

01.06.2010

So far, I like the stealth approach that Edgar Wright's living graphic novel SCOTT PILGRIM vs. THE WORLD is taking, especially in these days of constant studio hype and online hyperbole. Of course, I love the books so I have an idea of what to expect, and Edgar won't let me down because he knows I will leave him.

Couple of nice hi-res snaps below, and the official synopsis: Meet charming and jobless Scott Pilgrim (Michael Cera). A bass guitarist for garage band Sex Bob-omb, the 22-year-old has just met the girl of his dreams...literally. The only catch to winning Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead)? Her seven evil exes are coming to kill him. Genre-smashing filmmaker Edgar Wright (Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead) tells the amazing story of one romantic slacker's quest to power up with love in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.

Scott Pilgrim has never had a problem getting a girlfriend. It's getting rid of them that proves difficult. From the girl who kicked his heart's ass--and now is back in town--to the teenage distraction he's trying to shake when Ramona rollerblades into his world, love hasn't been easy. He soon discovers, however, his new crush has the most unusual baggage of all: a nefarious league of exes controls her love life and will do whatever it takes to eliminate him as a suitor.

As Scott gets closer to Ramona, he must face an increasingly vicious rogues' gallery from her past--from infamous skateboarders to vegan rock stars and fearsomely identical twins. And if he hopes to win his true love, he must vanquish them all before it really is game over.

He's got the Jamie Bell look going on in this movie... I almost said "that's Billy Elliot" when I saw those pics.

I've been done with Cera since he was the lone holdout for an Arrested Development movie. You play the same character in everything. You're like the next Vince Vaughn. You were originally good (when you were original), now you're just the same old same old.

Why is it that everybody rags on Michael Cera for doing the same old sticht but instantly diss this movie when it gives him a chance to grow. I agree that his act is getting alittle old, but I dont entirely hate him yet. I think Youth in Revolt looks like a great chance for him to expand his role a bit while still doing what he does best. And if that movie can't do it then I'm sure this one will. I'm looking forward to it.

To me bud, his act was too old after "Juno" let alone the countless films he's done since and played the exact...same...f#cking...guy. He looks like he just put on a pair of sunglasses and a fake moustache in that "Youth in Revolt" and expected everyone to think he's playing a different person since his act barely changes.

I'm trying to be excited....

....but I hate Michael Cera as an actor so much. I can barely get through the trailer for "Youth In Revolt" without cursing him out. He couldn't act his way out of a parking ticket.

NICE. That 2nd pic alone gets my juices running. I was wondering how, stylistically, it would look. Really neat.

I haven't read the books, but this just looks and sounds really fucking appealing in many ways. The way I look at it is like a high school student's doodles jumping off his notebook, and coming to life. It's got that awesomely wacky "Get me the fuck out of here" daydream vibe every teenagers knows by heart. It's the place we all wish was real so that we could go there and kick unrealistic amounts of ass.

That's just the impression I'm getting.

Read the books! You are in the right area but it's a little more crazy than what you imagined.

I've said it before . . .

. . . and I'll say it again. I look at the pic of the group from right to left, and I chortle and sqee, then I see Michael Cera and think "WHY? WHY? WHY?"

For readers of the books - think about the character of Scott in the comic, and think about EVERYTHING you know about Cera, and TELL ME what Edgar Wright was thinking?

Flaming katanas aren't going to save this.

What a great thing to get home from work and find. I absolutely can't wait for this film or the 6th book. I'm thinking of organizing a Fanboys and attempting to sneak into Wright's lair to catch it early. Who's with me?

For someone who's not familiar with this, I don't know what the big deal is. The synopsis makes it seem kind of childish, but the visuals seem cool. It seems like it might be a love it or hate it movie, like speed racer, but again I don't know much about it.

Its really not fair that I have to wait more than another day, let alone 7 months at best, to see this film.

Nice to see a high quality pic of the group. The second photo slides this film into my 3rd spot for most anticipated of 2010.
