UPDATE: First look at Elizabeth Banks as Effie in The Hunger Games

Oct. 27, 2011by: Paul Tassi

Update: Now with a ton more character images released to a number of sites!

THE HUNGER GAMES seems content doling out images and video as slowly as humanly possible, showing as little as they can, and the new image in that trend is this first shot of Elizabeth Banks as Effie.

It’s a profile shot, and shows some feathers and what appears to be some sort of a hat. As I haven’t read the books, I won’t pretend to know anything more about her and I’ll like EW take over:

For the uninitiated, Effie is series heroine Katniss Everdeen and her District 12 counterpart Peeta Mellark's tinny and willfully oblivious handler as they navigate the reaping and Capitol. "Happy Hunger Games!" she cries out happily to the crowd of terrified children awaiting to hear who will have to fight to their death. "And may the odds be ever in your favor!" She's a wonderful comic turn of a role, with great layers of menace and vulnerability.

Extra Tidbit: I'm actually saving reading the books in order not to spoil the movie. Yes, I know that's backwards.

Not holding my breath. I'm in the middle of the 1st book (told my wife I'd read the trilogy if she read the 1st 3 DarkTower novels) and the potential for a kick ass flick is right there. Should be an R Rating but I suppose a hard PG-13 will suffice. The potential is there for the film to be WAY better than the book. The posters are way too glossy to me. Woody looks way too clean cut. And I totally thought Stanley Tucci was Cinna. Is he in this at all . . . ?

Extra Tidbit: Actually I always do it that way. Think of it like this, rather than evaluating the film the whole way through and comparing it to the book the whole way through. See the movie, love it for what it is and then read the book to get the story "extended" with more detail in the way it was meant to be experienced.

This can work...but for some movies like LOTR if you have never read the books you miss so many little nods and character nuances. But maybe see the movie, read the book see the movie again....

One reason why that is retarded is, you'll end up waiting years for the movie to come out instead of reading a good book. Or in some cases the movie never comes out. Case in point. I AM NUMBER 4 movie was alright at best, but both books are awesome, way better than World War Z. But the first movie didn't do that great, so they probable won't be making a second.

If this is such a big deal how come I have never heard about it before Joblo started covering it? And I read constantly. Have to say everything I have seen so far looks bad, the posters are too simple and boring. I doubt I will take this in at the theater, but maybe if it gets decent reviews I will catch in on DVD.

Bring on a damn Robot Jox remake already!

Probably because it's a "young adult" series.Since Twilight did such big obx office, Hollywood went after this one. I hadn't heard of it either, I didn't hear of Twilight also until people started freaking out about a movie of it.

I read the books long before there was talk of a movie and I really pictured Elizabeth Banks in the role of Effie, but the books explain her very clearly and they've made her look like Tim Burton's The Mad Hatter for the poster...

Looks about what I thought. But isn't this the first look at Haymitch and Cinna as well? They look about right according to the book, but I had really hoped that they would do some kind of minimalist redesign on the Capitol characters. I know that their makeup is supposed to look silly and pretty awful, but really, they could have done changed it a little. I'd rather not see people with lime-green skin.

And to those wondering what the hell is going on, yeah, that's pretty much how they're described in the book.

One of the main reasons I never read the books first...

I hate being spoiled before seeing the movie. Hate knowing what's going to happen.
That being said, they better get a trailer out on this one quick cause these posters say nothing just like the first teaser.

The reason I think that makes no sense is because your assuming every book is going to be made into a movie. So you wait until the book is eventual made into a movie which makes the book old by the time you read it. And if that's not what you assume, than your saying you only read books that are commercial enough to become a movie before you read it?? So your just starting to read the Harry Potter books, which means you waited 14 years before you started reading them???
