First look at Kodi Smit-McPhee's Nightcrawler from X-Men: Apocalypse

Production is underway on X-MEN: APOCALYPSE, and to mark the occasion, Bryan Singer and Kodi Smit-McPhee (DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES, LET ME IN) have revealed the first look at Smit-McPhee as Nightcrawler. It seems to be more of a concept image than an actual picture of the actor as the teleporting mutant, but it still gives us a very good look at how he will appear in the upcoming movie.

BAMF!

X-Men: Apocalypse Bryan Singer Kodi Smit-McPhee

Looks pretty damn good to me, although I'm sure a few of you aren't going to be pleased with his "emo swoop." Bryan Singer will more than likely be posting a bunch of behind-the-scenes stuff while filming X-MEN: APOCALYPSE (as he did for X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST), and while checking out how Kodi Smit-McPhee will look in the film is great and all, I know I'm not the only who is extremely excited to see Oscar Isaac's Apocalypse. Do you think Smit-McPhee's Nightcrawler is better, worse or on par with the Alan Cumming version from X2: X-MEN UNITED, and when do you think we'll get a first look at Apocalypse?

X-MEN: APOCALYPSE opens on May 27, 2016.

I'm curious how they'll explain his relationship with Mystique

Mystique is in her mid-20s in Days of Future Past and now we're in the 80s so did she hook up with someone in-between that time because Azael was killed by the military.

I wouldn't be surprised if they either gloss over it completely or just have a passing reference that only real comic fans would get, like they did with Quicksilver/Magneto in Days of Future Past.

She was in her 20s during X-Men: First Class (assuming she was not assuming a younger appearance while in her human state), which means she was likely in her 30s during Days of Future Past and would be in her 40s by the timeline of Apocolypse. She can look ageless, though, because she can transform into her younger self. If she became pregnant with Azazel's child (Kurt aka Nightcrawler) around the time she met him in the 60s, Nightcrawler could be in his late teens or early 20s during the

Or they could change his origin.

It's highly doubtful she will be paired up with Azazel. There was nothing in the films to even suggest they would get together. I'd wager they won't even make Mystique the mother. As for his relationship with Azazel, they could connect it, but again, I don't see Mystique being his mother.

I listened to the films, and I did the math to figure out how old Nightcrawler could possibly be if he was Mystique's son in this continuity, and yeah, sure, it fits. I just don't think that they'd honestly spend much time trying to construct a mother/son arc between Mystique and Nightcrawler. There's going to be enough going on in Apocalypse with the new villain and wrapping up Magneto, Xavier, and Mystique's story in relation to one another, as it seems like this will likely be their last

Fox and Singer have obviously proven they're open to rather blatant deviations from the comics, and I just doubt they'd waste time on a side-story casual fans don't really care about. Like I said, they might throw out a casual easter egg for fans who know they're related, but I doubt they're trying to make this a film about a mutant mother reconnecting with her long lost son.

It looks really good. At least the concept art does.
I don't really mind the "emo swoop" to be honest. It kind of suits the character's [link] But isn't the whole "emo" thing a little ahead of it's time for this movie, considering it's based the '90's? Ah well, I don't want to nitpick.

The hair is bad, especially for the time this movie is set, but he looks good. This movie is going to have a ton of characters in it. And is Gambit confirmed?

Cummings did an amazing job in X-MEN 2 but Kodi Smit-McPhee was excellent in LET ME IN. I think he'll make a great Nightcrawler.

Looks fine to me. He just has big shoes to fill after Cumming's terrific performance in X: Men United.

But out of all of the old, new, recurring, or redone characters that are appearing in this new film, I'm looking forward to Cyclops, and Angel's arc the most since they were two of the more characters who's stories were screwed up (especially Cyclops).
