First look at Zack Snyder's Legend of the Guardians

03.04.2010

LEGEND OF THE GUARDIANS? In case that name doesn't ring a bell, it's because Warner Bros. just recently changed it from the original GUARDIANS OF GA'HOOLE, fearing that people would be confused by "Ga'Hoole" and avoid the film like the plague. ("Ga'Hoole" means "Great Spirit of Hoole" in the fictional owl tongue of Krakish... *blank stare* ...okay, I can see why they changed it.)

Anywho, USA Today's gotten the exclusive first look at Zack Snyder's upcoming animated fantasy film based on Kathryn Lasky's 15-book young adult series "Guardians of Ga'Hoole". Snyder tells USA Today, "At some point, I figured, I had to do something my kids could watch."

Check out all five images RIGHT HERE. The film stars the voice talents of Emily Barclay, Abbie Cornish, Emilie de Ravin, Ryan Kwanten, Helen Mirren, Jim Sturgess, Sam Neill, Geoffrey Rush, Hugo Weaving and David Wenham. Expect to see some awesome visuals from Snyder and his crew come July 30th when this sucker swoops into theaters.

Synopsis: Deep in the forest of Tyto, nestled into the arms of the fir trees, the Barn Owls dwell. Soren is born into their tranquil kingdom. But evil lurks in the owl world, evil that threatens to shatter Tyto's peace and change the course of Soren's life forever. First eggs begin to mysteriously disappear from their nests, then Soren himself is captured by a part of strange yellow-eyed owls. He finds himself in a dark and forbidding canyon. It's called an orphanage, the St. Aegolius Academy for Orphaned Owls, but Soren knows it's something far worse. Within his gizzard, the hope for escape remains alive, no matter how many rules, punishments, and sleepless days he faces at St. Aggie's. He and his best friend, Gylfie, know the only way out of this place is up, so they will need to do something they have never done before fly.

Extra Tidbit: What are some of the great cinematic owls? Bubo from the original CLASH OF THE TITANS? Umm... Nite Owl from Snyder's own WATCHMEN? C'mon, there's gotta be more. Help me out here!

every other 'kids save the middle earth and land of magic' movie has done this b4

really, my diadtrbe is unfounded? and avatar is the best script? c'mon hollywood is bullshitting you and telling you is ice cream you're getting, but the truth is, even is you put sprinkles on dodo it's still dodo. avatar was visually stunning, but it was still dodo. maybe the truth offends and all that, but deep down you know i am typing the truth and maybe you feel a little taken aback for having the truth pointed out to you. I have nothing against imagination, but when you take cs lewis,

Olga from daywatch and nightwatch was an owl. Great transformation on film too.

Good to see Snyder doing another film. I thought he vanished or something.

Geee...

Another "fantasy" movie for teenagers... great...

This "trend" sucks hairy b*lls... hopefully Peter Jackson will show the world that there is still a huge fanbase for more adult oriented fantasy stories...

Hopefully.. something in the lines of Warcraft will be next after The Hobbit...

Only part of your diatribe i will co-sign is your reluctance to register. If you never registered I wouldnt have to read you railing against the imaginative.

This looks awesome. I'm a huge animation buff and I'm excited to see what Snyder brings to the table.

Best owl from movies: The Great Owl from The Secret of NIMH! What a bad-ass owl.

Going from the images the animation's looks pretty damn good, I've enjoyed everything from Snyder so far so even though I've never heard of the books before I'll check this out.
