Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Here’s one for all you Cumberbitches.

The first still of Benedict Cumberbatch in THE IMITATION GAME. The film is a biopic centering on Alan Turing a “codebreaker and mathematician, who was prosecuted for being homosexual and eventually committed suicide via cyanide poisoning.” This photo of Cumberbatch in the role was released in honor of Turing’s Royal Pardon which came into effect this Christmas Eve.

Turing was responsible for cracking the Enigma Code during World War II. He was prosecuted in 1952 for living as a homosexual, and chose chemical castration over time in prison. Sadly, Turing took his own life in 1954 by eating an apple that contained cyanide.

The script from Graham Moore topped the Blacklist in 2011 then was finally nabbed by Black Bear Pictures. Morten Tyldum (HEADHUNTERS) will direct the film also starring Keira Knightley, Matthew Goode, Mark Strong and Charles Dance.

No word yet on a US release.
