First offical look at Robin Lord Taylor as Oswald Cobblepot in Gotham

Mar. 25, 2014by: Niki Stephens

Lately weve seen quite a few character posters for Foxs GOTHAM series. Ive enjoyed all of them with the exception of Selina Kyle/Catwoman. I dont care for the look with the character, but will reserve judgment until the series airs.

Not long ago, I showed you guys some set pictures that featured Benjamin McKenzie running the streets as James Gordon, and then we got our first look at Robin Lord Taylor as Oswald Cobblepot/Penguin. Now it seems that a more official look at Cobblepot has hit. I saw some remarks about him looking a little too hipster but I think the actor and the look at fitting.

Oswalds description for the show is:

Oswald Cobblepot/aka The Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor The Walking Dead, Another Earth, Accepted) has the brains of a chess grandmaster and the morals of a jackal. A low-level psychopath for gangster Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett Smith), he hides his sadistic lust for power behind an exquisitely polite demeanor.

GOTHAM hits small screens this Fall on Fox.

So far, the casting has been pretty horrible.

The guy playing Alfred should have stuck with Elementary and his Lestrade role. The guy playing Gordon is fine, but its just weird and difficult to take someone so young seriously as such a well known character.

I don't see this show doing well. Nothing about it says "original" or "continuity". They are changing so much about the mythos to the Batman universe its kind of ruining the point. It is basically a name dropping show, where you can actually name everyone from the comics something

It is basically a name dropping show, where you can actually name everyone from the comics something different (IE Jim Gordon to Jake Thompson) and it wouldn't impact the world at all. There is no point to calling this Gotham. It should be called "Boring Police Drama #150" Soon to be cancelled by Fox.

Something tells me someone greenlit this trash just so next time Peter from Family Guy goes through a list of failed Fox shows, they can say Gotham.

So far their casting decisions have been more or less on the mark, but I just can't get excited about this show. The rumored script problems are mostly the culprit here. You just KNOW they're going to have lines in there like "Hey, that Cobblepot guy looks just like a PENGUIN!"

Or, "That little CAT burglar always gives us the slip!" Not to mention the promotional image of a young Selina Kyle stealing a quart of MILK. Ugh. Subtlety isn't going to be this show's strong point, that's for sure.

I'm interested in the show, although so far I dislike young emo Penguin. I keep expecting him to say he was into villany before it became popular...

You hit the nail on the head. Not only is Penguin looking super Emo, but so is Catgirl.

I know some people are complaining that he doesn't quite look like The Penguin that we are accustomed to, but I think over past episodes and seasons (if the show gets that far) he'll slowly turn into the hideous villain we are all used to seeing in the past films and comic books.

Yep, that' really does seem like what a young Oswald Cobblepot would look like.

I guess he'll gain a few pounds 7 seasons later.

He has such a devilish smile. This might work after all.

I initially had very little interest when this show was announced, but I'm finding myself more and more intrigued. Dude looks like a genuine creep, could make for one helluva Penguin.
