First official image of Tom Hardy from George Miller's Mad Max: Fury Road

Sep. 6, 2013by: Jesse Giroux

Now before some of you start yelling at me, I did say "first" official image, not "new" official image. AICN has a great look at Tom Hardy as Mad Max in the upcoming MAD MAX: FURY ROAD, but it is the exact same picture as the one that surfaced online back in December. Kind of lame, but here it is:

MAD MAX: FURY ROAD has had some trouble making its way to the big screen, and it was recently announced that the main cast will return to Australia for additional filming. In my opinion, Warner Bros. releasing a first official image that is the same as a leaked one from nine months ago is not a good sign. Do they really not have any new pictures of Tom Hardy as Mad Max? Hell, I'd even settle for images of Charlize Theron or Nicholas Hoult from George Miller's film. Hopefully I'm wrong and the new movie will end up being just as great as the first three with Mel Gibson, but right now I'm a little worried about MAD MAX: FURY ROAD.

MAD MAX: FURY ROAD should be in theaters sometime in 2014.

First OFFICIAL

People forget that the release of this image nine months ago was not official. It was a leak. Someone had scanned their signed copy of the photo and posted it online. This is the studio's first official high quality look at Max. If it's the same image, so what? Why show us too much too early.

I was under the impression that the announcement of reshoots was no longer seen as a death sentence to a film. Many studio films now have reshoots to smooth out some things. I was more concerned when

I was under the impression that the announcement of reshoots was no longer seen as a death sentence to a film. Many studio films now have reshoots to smooth out some things. I was more concerned when it was rumored that Warner Bros. was apparently interfering with the production. But this is George Miller, a brilliant filmmaker who has been planning to make this movie for ten years, and unlike Spielberg with KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL, bear in mind that Miller actually WANTS to make this long-awaited fourth installment.

So if I who hold Mel Gibson's portrayal of Max so dear is able to look on the bright side of things, I think the rest of us can. Put away your Jump to Conclusions Mat.

That character with the one eye, right? Hilarious, love how she was channelling Billy Crystal in that role!

I'm going to give this a chance, because I like Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron and Nicholas Hoult and because George Miller, who knows his way around the Mad Max character, is at the helm.

I'm not worried.

Yea so they've had production delays and so fourth...but the original was made with nothing but spit and elbow grease on their own terms, and The Road Warrior wasn't too much slicker, and they turned out to be fucking awesome.

Infact the slickest in terms of production value is probably the most un-even and disappointing one of the trilogy (not that I don't enjoy Beyond Thunderdome, because I do).

As long as this looks like it was slung together by a few low brow

As long as this looks like it was slung together by a few low brow mechanics, clothes from a S&M charity shop and a guy who just happens to know how to use a camera, and NOT like a CGI filled, heartless, committee built, tent-pole movie...then it should be fine.

Still....miss Mel, almost hoping that Hardy's character isn't actually "Max" but I'm never that lucky.

Hardy is going to own as the new Mad Max. I have a feeling though that the film will be very Dredd like in that it will be a great film, not seen by alot of people.

That's exactly what I said on an earlier article about this film.

Somewhere in the world, two people met and fell in love over mutual love of the Mad Max franchise. They finish each other's AC/DC lyrics, Instagram every Ford Falcon they see, and have pet names for each other's genitals (Lord Humungus & Cundalini.)

C'mon George. Finish this bad boy for them.
