First official look at Ben McKenzie as James Gordon; Fish Mooney spotted

03.26.2014by:

Need more GOTHAM? I suspect this might be the last of the character posters unless they do one for Jada Pinkett-Smithís mobster lady, Fish Mooney. Iíve photos for both up this evening.

First is the official character poster for Ben McKenzie as Detective James Gordon. Thereís no character description for this one. Iíd like to think, and Fox might as well, that you should already be very familiar with this character. I believe McKenzie was an excellent choice for this. While I know him best from THE OC, he did some great work on SOUTHLAND.

Then we have set photos of Jada Pinkett-Smith in costume as Mooney. Iíve always sort of liked her as a tough gal/badass. It will be interesting to see what she brings to this universe.

Hereís a little description:

A sadistic gangster boss and nightclub owner with street smarts and extra-sensory abilities to read people like an open book. Fish Mooney is imposing, hotheaded, and not to be crossed.

Anyone who has watched Southland will know that Ben McKenzie can act. If you haven't seen him in that series you may want to give it a try, he matures as an actor from The O.C. into a bonafide television actor (notice I said television, I don't think he's ready for the big screen yet).

Also, what the hell is wrong with fanboys? You accept multiple storylines and worlds within one universe when it comes to Marvel but don't care for it when its a DC product? Why can't you accept that this

Why can't you accept that this show will have nothing to do with the movies, just like Marvel's Agents of SHIELD has nothing to do with the movies? (save for the last few episodes when they finally got their shit in gear)

WTH is going on

if that guy were sitting next to me I wouldn't remember his face, he looks like a generic video game character that is the stock background guy in a sports game. With JPS, my god the horror, I mean really we have to watch her in more atrocious shit, god save us.

I guess the show's final season will end with Gordon finally putting on his glasses.

I'm going to echo some of the concerns on where this fits into the continuity of it all. Is David Mazouz in this show going to grow up into Ben Affleck? Will the setting be chronologically ambiguous? The Marvel Cinematic Universe has achieved really solid sense of continuity, and as a DC fan, it kinda hurts that it doesn't seem to be the case with DC.

Nice to hear a valid concern about this show rather than people mooning over his lack of moustache and glasses. I think DC definitely need to do the universe thing right regardless of people comparing them now to playing catchup with Marvel, DC setting solid foundations is paramount to everything holding together well but I do worry they are trying to rush too much too soon.

why does this even have to be in the same timeline as past or future movies, it should stand on its own. I mean SHIELD has some continuity but it blows donkey balls so does it really matter if it fits while the product sucks?

My question is, what YEAR does the show take place? Is it current, like set to Arrow's timeline? If so, that would make everyone SO much older than Batman. If it takes place like 10 years before Arrow, than it can fit into continuity. I dunno. I'm skeptical, but that is all assuming DC plans on Gotham being part of Arrow's and future show Flash universe to create a larger one.

I don't think so, they are from different rival companies (arrow and Flash CW, while Gotham is Fox). Flash and Arrow are definitely in the same universe

But it's the same studio producing the shows, Warner Brothers.

Producing a series does not mean they own the intellectual property.

This show is just Fox taking advantage of their television rights to Batman and the characters. I doubt they would be happy if Disney decided to make a live action Xmen television show. I guess Marvel wants to take the high road. If it were up to someone immature like myself I would fight fire with fire and have an Xmen series with HBO.

Um, Warner Bros still owns the rights to all DC characters and they are the ones producing this show. Fox is just the network airing the series. In your scenario, ABC would have to air a show produced by Fox, since Fox has the rights to X-Men, but Disney/ABC could not do the show without Fox, just as Fox could not make this series without the involvement of Warner Bros Television.

Ben McKenzie is going to own the role. He was terrific in Southland and in Junebug. Can't wait to see what he brings to this series with his portrayal of Gordon.

The only thing that irritates me about this series is casting Jada Pinkett Smith. Can't stand her.

Im glad about this Series, but I'm very confused bout this...

This Series is all before Batman, so its safe to say its to have a prequel feeling about it all.. So will Gordon be loosing many of these battles? Arkham Cant be full by the time Batman arises, otherwise there is no "need" for Batman to ever exist. How can Gordon win if the GCPD are all corrupt, and he is the only good in a city of evil... very confused

I made this point a while ago. It fell on deaf ears. People will just eat up anything that is batman related even if it doesn't make any sense.

i am looking forward to this show, just confused about how it will go, can't see a show where we watch Gordon win.. then there is no need for Batman, and if we watch him loose how will they keep the audience.. Although a series where the villain wins would be a different change.

Thats right, the show isnt on. Everyone is wetting themselves based on PICTURES! And not even interesting ones. Just a guy standing there that doesnt look like Gordon - just some guy standing - WOW this show will rock! Ok, well Penguin looks nothing like he should - how does he get short and fat later? Didnt he become fat when he was a child?

Also, i will give this show a chance as i do with all superhero properties, and i am a big batman fan, so i will watch it for sure. Right now we are

Right now we are just posing questions based on the synopsis of the show - which is all we have to go on. And based on that it does seem odd. Anyway, it could turn out to be amazing, so we shall see.
