First official look at Jennifer Lawrence in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

01.09.2013

Last year THE HUNGER GAMES took the world by fire and this year's sequel, THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE, will likely do just the same.  In fact, Wall Street analyst Richard Geeenfield of BTIG weighed in on his predictions for the 2013 film slate, naming the sequel to Suzanne Collins renowned series to be the top earner for the year.  Today, EW released the first official images of star Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen and Sam Claflin as Finnick Odair. Katniss is looking very much like she did in the original, just with some new color accents and shiny arrows, while Finnick looks ready for a show on the CW at any moment.

Take a gander:

Here's the synopsis:

THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE begins as Katniss Everdeen has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark. Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a “Victor’s Tour” of the districts. Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) – a competition that could change Panem forever.

Directed by Francis Lawrence (I AM LEGEND), THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE, starring Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Sam Claflin, Lenny Kravitz, Elizabeth Banks, Stanley Tucci, Donald Sutherland, Toby Jones, Woody Harrelson, Jena Malone, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Amanda Plummer, Lynn Cohen, Patrick St. Esprit, Meta Golding, Bruno Gunn, Alan Ritchson, E. Roger Mitchell, Maria Howell, Stephanie Leigh Schlund and Jeffrey Wright opens in IMAX on November 22, 2013.

Extra Tidbit: Are you more or less excited for a sequel to The Hunger Games? I'm completely neutral; this falls in a "I'll probably see it" category for me.

And so the quality slide begins. Honestly, I have no idea how the films are going to raise the quality of the books from this point on. I enjoyed Hunger Games, both the book and the film, but Catching Fire is a slide in quality and Mockingjay is awful. These filmmakers have a lot of work ahead of them.

God Bless You, Joblo.com! :)

About 2 days ago, Joblo.com posted another 1 of their Cool Videos: "Everything wrong with The Hunger Games in under 3 minutes" (which are funny as hell, by the way).

And that heavenly scrumptious picture above 100% TOTALLY confirms Alex Maidy's Extra Tidbit from that article: The only thing NOT wrong with THE HUNGER GAMES: Jennifer Lawrence's bewbs

Liked the 1st movie & the 1st 2 books but still not impressed with who they cast as Finnick, should have at least been a known name but obviously not as big as Jennifer Lawrence. This actor will have to convince me big time.

Loved the first one. I think this will be a case when the sequel surpasses the original.

So Hunger Games is going for the blank expressions angle Twilight did. Could potentially alienate a few ticket sales with emotion, oh no.

Erm.. only commenting on the fact that these promotional images present no emotional expression, which was the strategy(?) of the Twilight franchise. I'll refrain from comparing the two otherwise, although you HAVE to admit there are OBVIOUS similarities simply business-wise.

I'm interested

Catching Fire was a decent sequel, but it's Mockinjay that is gonna be problematic. I think Suzanne Collins was on a tight schedule when she had to write that one; too much "rocks fall, everybody dies."

And yes, Jennifer Lawrence is a great actress.

I agree on Mockingjay & in fact i could not finish the book because it got too political & went all over the place. It's also syrprisingly very violent. You have to wonder how they will balance the politics & violence to keep it PG-13. Even some of the violence is crucial to the plot & can't be half assed.

Hehe, if it's not for The Hunger Game title on that cover, I'd have thought that guy is the new Aquaman.
