First official photo of Bruce Willis and Jai Courtney in A Good Day To Die Hard

Oct. 3, 2012by: Paul Shirey

The first official image from A GOOD DAY TO DIE HARD has found its way online, featuring stars Bruce Willis and Jai Courtney as John and Jack McClane, respectively.  Armed up and ready to fight, the two stars play a father and son duo for the DIE HARD franchise's fifth installment, this time directed by John Moore (MAX PAYNE).

“That’s the thing about the DIE HARD franchise, John’s always a fish out of water.  What could be further out of water for him than Russia?” says Courtney, who also stars with Tom Cruise in JACK REACHER. Naturally, we can expect some father-son bicker and banter. “The relationship isn’t always functional. These are two guys who have been estranged for some time. John likes to wing it, see what happens. Jack’s more of a strategist,” says Courtney.

Although we know that Cole Hauser and Sebastian Koch are involved as villains (with the rumor of Patrick Stewart as a Russian General still floating around), Courtney is elusive in his response to the film's villains, saying “I can’t say much about the villains without giving it away."  That could mean any number of things, from Courtney just remaining mum for the sake of remaining mum, or the possibility of a villainous tie to the other films.

You'll find out all your answers when A GOOD DAY TO DIE HARD opens on February 14, 2013, the strangest release date ever for an action franchise.  Be prepared for a trailer to hit any day now.

Set your expectations accordingly

I want this movie to be good the creative team doesn't fill me with confidence when it's from . . .
the writer of X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Hitman, Swordfish, and the A-Team.
and the director of Max Payne, The Omen (remake) and Flight of the Phoenix.

I liked his green shirt look in the last one.

The whole 'bringing the son in to position itself for a reboot' element bothers me, as does the involvement of John Moore, as he hasn't shown any promise as an action director since Behind Enemy Lines (and even that film suffered at times, particularly during the ending). Talk shit on the fourth film if you want to, but ultimately it was a lot of fun, and received better reviews from critics than DH2 and DH3 (and better audience ratings on IMDb). Obviously people above the age of 12 who can

Obviously people above the age of 12 who can judge a film based beyond whether it's PG-13 or R generally enjoyed it. I thought the action sequences were staged well, and it was just a lot of fun. But this one? I've got low expectations.

Live Free is decent but pales in comparison to the first 3. Why would a NY cop be doing in Jersey doing the job of the FBI? The set up was off. As was the crazy chase with the F-22. Other than those gripes it was on par with the other 3. This one, I hope is the capper. I hope the set up and villain are better than the last. While 4 had a ton of action it just felt cold to me. Hopefully this upcoming one doesn't.

Why?

Why would they hire the director of Max Payne? Were they smoking a Nitroglycerin filled crack pipe? I do have hope for this but what the hell is with the director and writer? I really hope this is a good addition to the franchise (and Rated R). I hope this is John Moore's first good film because I will be pissed if he fucks this up.

Its going to be explosive Valentines Day

I'm noticing a trend here, in the last movie he was with his daughter and now he's with his son. If they're going to make a 6th film I'm betting his wife will be in the next adventure bring the franchise full-circle.

The title could be Die Hard For Your Love.

Maybe I am just nitpicking - but what bothered me the most in 4 and is happening again in 5 is bald John McClane. "Bald Willis" is just the stereotypical badass that he plays in every other film, (which I'm ok with), but for some reason the hair always added to McClane's reluctance and personality.

Just happy that Jai Courtney is getting back in front of a screen, whether it be the small or the big screen. Loved him as Varro, hope his career skyrockets.

I like the Die Hard movies, including Live Free. That picture, McClanes' son has a bigger head that he does.

Yippe Ki Yay Motherf*GUNSHOT*

Directors/Extended cut of Live Free was awesome. The theatrical was terribly edited - obviously shot for "R" rating and edited to make money. Willis' mouth says "fucker" instead "dickhead" or "jerk off" comes out...until Fox releases extended Live Free on Blu-Ray, I will stay negative.

I pass no judgments until opening night. I want to see it no matter what. Bruce Willis action movies are always aces in my book

I've now read several comments by people complaining about Bruce Willis being bald. Would you rather they fit him for a wig? People go bald. They also get older. What can you do? I'm certain Bruce Willis would be thrilled to oblige you with a full head of hair. I don't think "bald" was a career decision.

John McClane never had a full head of hair. His receding hairline fit the personality of the character - that is what myself and I assume others are referring to.

There's something odd about Bruce's costume. It doesn't stand out. Like filmaddict said, I also like his look with green shirt in Live Free Or Die Hard. I hope his character finds some costume that stands out more later in the movie.

Just wanna say Sebastian Koch has me just a little optimistic, as would Patrick Stewart if it comes to fruition.
