First peek at Lars Von Trier's two-part Nymphomaniac highlights sex on a train
The first peek into the controversially-themed NYMPHOMANIAC, the two-part film from Lars Von Trier has debuted online, giving a very small tease of what to expect. Starring Charlotte Gainsburg, Uma Thurman, Shia LaBeouf, Stellan Skarsgård, Connie Nielsen, Jamie Bell, Christian Slater, Udo Kier, Sophie Kennedy Clark, Stacy Martin, and Willem Dafoe, the film is an exploration of a "self-diagnosed nymphomaniac recounting her erotic experiences to the man who saved her after a beating." In the clip, Stacy Martin and Sophie Kennedy Clark (as the protagonist, Joe, in her early years) are seen discussing how to pick up a man to have sex with him in an apparent competition for a bag of "chocolate sweeties."
Take a look:
I've only ever seen Von Trier's ANTICHRIST, so I can't say I'm dying for his next film, but this certainly seems intriguing, if not titillating. I can't gauge whether or not Von Trier plays it for shock value or if he really has something to say, honestly, but either way I'm interested to see what comes of this. Will it be something more than soft/hardcore porn or will it be exactly that with just better actors? We'll see.
NYMPHOMANIAC debuts on Christmas Day (of course) in Denmark. It's unclear how it will debut stateside, but I wouldn't anticipate a wide release.
