First photos from the set of Django Unchained may cause deja vu for Deadwood fans

It shouldn't come as much of a surprise that though Quentin Tarantino's DJANGO UNCHAINED is being loosely classified as a "Southern", it nevertheless looks to be bearing all of the resemblances of a classic Western.

Actor Garrett Dillahunt (LOOPER, COGAN'S TRADE) visited Tarantino's set on the famous Santa Clarita Melody Ranch - backdrop to many Hollywood westerns - and uploaded some pics to his Twitter profile. As Dillahunt nostalgically points out, the set was also home to HBO's fantastic "Deadwood" (in which he also starred):

"Visited the set of Django Unchained today... it looked familiar. Actually kinda choked me up a little bit... it'll always be Deadwood to me."

DJANGO UNCHAINED opens this Christmas.

Cool. Hopefully Tarantino can find a way to make a western that will hit number one at the box office which, sadly, has not happened in a long time. It's a genre that just feels like it's slipping away more and more. It's not my favorite genre personally, however, it is still a crucial part of film history that should not be lost. Deadwood showed there is still life in that genre and still room for originality. Let us hope this film performs well so that Hollywood can offer more variety

Let us hope this film performs well so that Hollywood can offer more variety other than Superhero movies, PG 13 action movies and overrated comedies. Please understand, I happily own films that fall into all 3 of those categories. My intention is not to stop making them, as they are fun and appealing. I would just personally like to see one or two other genres on the big screen not in IMAX every now and again.

I'm hoping.

That's all I'm doing, is hoping.
Tarantino OBVIOUSLY has great visual flair. But, it has to be said, he does tend to reference other movies and indulge himself (and his dialogue) just that bit too much nowadays.
I mean I love most of his movies, but I really cannot put up with another set of characters sat talking around a table for three hours whilst he crams in as many classic movie references as possible.
I want it to be good, I really want it to be good, he obviously has the talent to
