First photos of Daniel Radcliffe in character as Igor in the upcoming Frankenstein

Filming has begun on Paul McGuigan's FRANKENSTEIN starring Daniel Radcliffe and James McAvoy. Unlike previous takes on Mary Shelley's classic novel, this film will be from the perspective of Igor rather than Victor Frankenstein or The Monster. These first set photos show us Radcliffe as the hunchback assistant dressed like a Victorian era pimp.

These images don't do much to give us an idea as to what will set this FRANKENSTEIN apart from the countless others aside from the point of view change, but Igor doesn't look like a hunchback here. Yeah, this is between filming, so maybe Radcliffe isn't showing us his lurching gait, bur it doesn't even look like there is a prosthetic in the costume. Could we be in store for a totally different Igor than we have become used to?

FRANKENSTEIN will also star Jessica Brown Findlay who is playing a trapeze artist who befriends Igor after he saves her from an accident. Director Paul McGuigan has helmed the superhero movie PUSH, LUCKY NUMBER SLEVIN, GANGSTER NO. 1, and WICKER PARK prior to FRANKENSTEIN, so consider me hesitant until I see more from this project. Daniel Radcliffe and James McAvoy are typically enough to intrigue me, so stay tuned.

FRANKENSTEIN will open January 16, 2015.

In that last photo, Radcliffe looks like he's about the say a sentence that contains the words "frightfully sorry".

Daniel Radcliffe and James McAvoy joked that they're making "The Social Network in the 19th Centrury", and that this makes Igor Eduardo Saverin.

Paul McGuigan

Paul McGuigan has directed 4 episodes of BBC's Sherlock! He's definitely got a unique visual sense and I'm intrigued by Radcliffe branching out as far as possible character wise!

Like his look

I like the look of the character and Radcliffe seems like he has acting ability to become a viable character actor but he is in the same boat as Aaron Paul with Jesse Pinkman and should follow Paul's lead...embrace the iconic role you played and respect the fans of that character while attempting to move on to quality films with quality directors. This is the way to go about a tough transition, Cranston has done a good job of beginning this tough transition as well.
