First pic of Hailee Steinfeld and battle school logos for Gavin Hood's adaptation of Ender's Game

Director Gavin Hood's (X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE) adaptation of Orson Scott Card's sci-fi novel ENDER'S GAME now has it's first look at Hailee Steinfeld in the film, which also stars Harrison Ford, Ben Kingsley, Viola Davis, Abigail Breslin, and Asa Butterfiled as Ender.  Steinfeld is playing Petra Arkanian, a female recruit in the Salamander army and friend to Ender.  Additionally, we have our first look at the battle school logos worn by recruits (of which you can see Steinfeld's in the pic).

I've never read ENDER'S GAME and really know nothing about it, so I'm going into this one with no expectations whatsoever.  For once, that feels kind of good.  The film has a great cast and I'm always game for some cool sci-fi, although I wasn't exactly floored (in a good way, at least) by Hood's last film.  Still, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and am looking forward to seeing some footage as we get closer to release.

Here's Steinfeld:

And here's the Battle School Logos:

Here's the synopsis:

In the near future, a hostile alien race (called the Formics) have attacked Earth. If not for the legendary heroics of International Fleet Commander, Mazer Rackham (Ben Kingsley), all would have been lost. In preparation for the next attack, the highly esteemed Colonel Graff (Harrison Ford) and the International Military are training only the best young children to find the future Mazer. Ender Wiggin (Asa Butterfield), a shy, but strategically brilliant boy is pulled out of his school to join the elite.

Arriving at Battle School, Ender quickly and easily masters increasingly difficult war games, distinguishing himself and winning respect amongst his peers. Ender is soon ordained by Graff as the military’s next great hope, resulting in his promotion to Command School. Once there, he’s trained by Mazer Rackham, himself, to lead his fellow soldiers into an epic battle that will determine the future of Earth and save the human race.

ENDER'S GAME is set for release on November 1, 2013.

Extra Tidbit: Fans of the book; How is this looking to you? Are the logos consistent with the story?

Why Gavin Hood?

I don't get it. I know Totsi was critically acclaimed, but Wolverine was garbage, and given the right direction this could be a huge franchise. I don't know why you entrust that to Gavin Hood? Here's hoping for the best.

I think that was more to do with studio interference (during Fox's infamous Tom Rothman era).

I have to agree. Certain directors are not big budget movie directors: Marc Forster. I simply don't understand the trust in letting this guy launch a possible franchise.

The books are sensational

And they definitely are NOT "the next Hunger Games" or "The next Twilight". This book series is dark, and philosophical and deep in meaning, it just HAPPENS to feature children. The pics are okay, and I love the casting, but the director gives me pause. I really disliked Wolverine, so we'll see.

Hailee Steinfeld stunned everyone with her wonderful performance in True Grit and rightly so. Many were jonesing for her to get the Katniss role in the Hunger Games films, and while I think she would've made a great Katniss, I really enjoyed Jennifer Lawrence in the role. Looking forward to this one, especially since Harrison Ford is probably my favourite actor of all time.

Finally,

A young adult fiction plot that doesn't involve love triangles.

I smell another Beautiful creatures kind of flop... Hunger games 2 opens a few weeks later. And with this pic and those logos I assume its a similar kind of movie.
