The first image of Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock in Netflix's Daredevil series

08.04.2014

When Joe Carnahan's Dardevil failed to gain enough momentum to be greenlit, the rights reverted back to Marvel. Rather than jump back into the cinematic pool, they decided to take Matt Murdock to the small screen. Casting news has been flying out left and right in regards to the comic property and while we've known Charlie Cox would be portraying the Man without Fear for a few months now, today we get our first glimpse of the character via the Instagram of Craig Engler who happened to be on set in Brooklyn.

Check 'em out:

I was initially upset that Daredevil wouldn't be getting the theatrical treatment any time soon, but that quickly subsided when I realized that the stories of Daredevil really lend themselves to a format that will allow Marvel to explore the characters and situations more in-depth. Daredevil doesn't quite have that "wow factor" like most superheroes, but he remains a fascinating character none-the-less. Shows on TV are making large strides in character development and acting and I only hope that that Marvel takes this show as seriously as their theatrical properties. I haven't exactly been won over by Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., but I'm excited to see where this show goes.

The Daredevil TV series will debut sometime in 2015 on Netflix.

Looks like Jeffrey Dean Morgan. I'm excited for this, especially with Netflix releasing all episodes too.

Is it the case that the series is set in the 1970s? Thought I heard something along those lines.
Not a deal-breaker either way, but making it a "period" piece could give it a really cool angle, whilst also nixing the temptation to do crossovers with the Marvel cinematic universe. Plenty of potential for great stand alone stories with Daredevil.

The way the characters play their roles and how the whole mythology wraps up is important, but I am also hoping for really good fighting choreography and really good editing.

That would be in keeping with the comic...I was hoping they wouldn't lose that. The fact that he is a devout Catholic is a HUGE part of what makes Matt compelling

I like the Columbo getup.
So do we know yet if they're going to go the "chemicals give him blind vision powers" route or just play it straight as a fearless vigilante who happens to be blind? I remember the movie utterly failing to decide which route to take and that was definitely a contributing factor in its failure. You can't imply he's simply blind, and then give him a cool sonar vision graphical effect that blind people obviously don't have.

Can't wait to bing watch the entire season.

Now if only the Netflix deal included a Punisher series, I would be in fanboy heaven.

This Netflix deal that Marvel worked out is genius. Its pretty obvious that Marvel Studios has a lot on their plate for the next five years. This way Daredevil, along with the other shows, will get the attention they need without getting in the way of the films. Besides, Daredevil is taking part in the Marvel Cinematic Universe so a crossover is bound to happen one of these days.

Very excited for this, but he looks like David Duchovny a bit in Fox Mulder mode.

I hope this is a TOTAL 180 from Agents of Shield. Should be dark and gritty, with some lighthearted fun.

I'm hoping for dark and gritty with zero to very little lighthearted fun. Maybe some Foggy comic relief. Do we know who's playing Foggy yet?
