First poster for Lee Daniels' THE PAPERBOY shows creepy John Cusack

Dec. 28, 2011by: Alex Riviello

John Cusack doesn't look happy in this decidedly retro poster for Lee Daniels' THE PAPERBOY.

The director of PRECIOUS is back with another dark film with a much different premise. Based on the 1995 novel of the same name by Pete Dexter ("Deadwood"), the film is about a "a directionless young man [who] helps his reporter brother investigate the possible wrongful conviction of a man on death row, and in the process, falls for the woman whom the convict has been romancing through prison correspondence."

The whole concept of women being attracted to men in jail never manages to intrigue me- there's been countless cases of convicted serial killers and other disgusting individuals starting up relationships and even getting married while in jail.

Definitely great material for a thriller, though, and can' wait to see Cusack's turn as the villain. Expect THE PAPERBOY to hit sometime next year.

I've hated every movie Lee Daniels has made. That said, fuck that's a great poster. It's so good that it (and the cast) gives me hope that the movie won't suck.

Digging it so far

Here's hoping it's more "Precious" and less "Shadowboxer".

I like the look of the poster, but instead of menacing, Cusack looks like he's about to break into song. WTF is with the eyeliner?

Help me out with this poster...

"Okay, so we got this shot of Efron and Kidman in the car, and another dude in a tie standing behind them. Looks good, but something's missing...I just don't know."
"I got it! Add a awkward-looking thin strip at the bottom of another dude wearing guyliner who is glaring intently at nothing. That won't look weird at all!"

I know I'll get thimbed down for this, but...

Zac Efron is a very talented young man. Even in the awful High School Musical movies he shows he has some range. In a way, he's the guy I think may have the best "post-pretty boy" career. Like Leo DiCaprio. (I know I'll get flamed for that one).
He can act, sing and dance. He only gets flack because of how bad the High School Musical movies were. If he did the same performance in a different musical he wouldn't get such hate from men.

No, I totally agree with you. He's still in the shit-head part of his career but I think he is slowly climbing out of it. I've never seen HSM (I just can't bear it) but I watched 17 AGAIN (which wasn't awful!) and thought he was actually funny at times. That was coming from hating him though, now I think he's fine, and I think one day it will be "like"

Two Dollars!

You know that Cusack has hated paperboys ever since "Better Off Dead."

Sounds pretty good. Cusack never dissapoints, and Kidman still looks hot. However i never understood how women could fall in love with guys in jail. Ted Bundy fathered several children from prison, which should not be allowed.
