First poster for Thor: The Dark World with Chris Hemsworth brings the thunder!

Apr. 19, 2013by:

Yesterday, we brought you the news that the first trailer for THOR: THE DARK WORLD would be premiering next week and today we have the first poster for the film, as well as confirmation that the trailer will drop on Tuesday, April 23rd. Pretty sweet, no? The poster is simple enough, featuring the God of Thunder weilding his famed hammer, Mjilnor, which has some new accents added, giving it a more regal appearance than before. Very cool, indeed.

Hammah!:

I'm excited for this pic and stoked to see a new trailer. One of the key selling points is director Alan Taylor who has shown great skill in executing fantasy sword operas with his stellar work on HBO's Game of Thrones. Although I think Kenneth Branagh did a great job with the first THOR, Taylor brings a different perspective, which will likely translate well in progressing the character forward. You can expect much more of the fantasy element with this sequel as THOR traverses the realms in battling his new enemy.

Here's the synopsis:

Marvel's "Thor: The Dark World" continues the big-screen adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger, as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself. In the aftermath of Marvel's "Thor" and "Marvel's The Avengers," Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos...but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.

THOR: THE DARK WORLD, starring Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Hopkins, Christopher Eccleston, Ray Stevenson, Idris Elba, Jamie Alexander, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Zachary Levi, Kat Dennings, Rene Russo, Chris O'Dowd returns to the Nine Realms on November 8, 2013.

Stay tuned for the trailer next Tuesday!

I am excited for this movie for sure, but is it just me or is anyone else missing the helmet? He had it in part one for about 3 mins and i thought it looked good.

Christopher Eccleston doesn't get billing at the top of the poster? I thought he'd be playing the main villain. Looking forward to the trailer coming soon! In terms of how Thor ranks in terms of the Marvel Cinematic Universe films, I enjoyed it a lot more than I expected to. I'd say it ties with Iron Man behind The Avengers.

There's a lot of praise for the young cast, and rightfully so, but I just have to say one thing...

I'm am so utterly stoked that Anthony Hopkins and Rene Russo are returning for these sequels. I was worried that, like Tommy Lee Jones, they'd bring in a big gun or two for the opening movies and then they'd just disappear for the sequels once the star had been introduced. But luckily I was utterly wrong and it seems that they're sticking around (well maybe not TLJ, but he doesn't need to for

It'd be nice to see Russo get some more screen time here as it was a shame how heavily edited she was out of the original movie (even if it did make sense for the pacing).

Happy all around, I'm bloody loving this Marvel Madness.

Does anybody else find it odd that Christopher Eccleston's name is not on the poster?

The poster is simple, but looks great! A nice teaser for the movie, which is still many months away..

Good to see more of Thor's main power (lightning) being used instead of him just pummeling shit.

I'm really curious how each of the phase 2 sequels is going to reference the previous Avengers movie. I mean, we're talking about a huge attempted invasion of New York city there, so it would be weird if they simply didn't acknowledge it at all. Thor stands to be the one most affected by it, I think - Jane Foster was whisked away off-screen to some safehouse in Avengers, which is nice and convenient for that movie, but I doubt she enjoyed that much. I don't think you can just bring her back

I don't think you can just bring her back without dealing with that previous situation in some way. And then on top of that, it was all Loki's fault! It'll be interesting to see what they do

Love it. Hemsworth has such a perfect face for Thor. I can't explain it but he does the serious and humor all in one.

@tidbit

Honestly - not that high. I'm a Punisher/X-Men kind of guy, but even in the avengers, I definitely read more Iron Man, Hulk and Cap than Thor. Nothing against him, but he's definitely not a favorite. The whole "Gods as Superheroes" thing never gelled with me growing up. Now, "planet-eating ancient forces of destruction as villains, and their conflicted heralds" is something I can get behind!

Pumped!

To date, I'd say Thor is low on the list of characters in the cinematic universe. The first movie was ok, but played too much on the "man out of place" concept that the comedic elements outweighed the action elements of the story. Don't get me wrong, I liked the first movie, but thought Iron Man, Cap Am, even Hulk did a better job of introducing the character into the cinematic universe. That being said, I think where the sequel is delving more into the fantasy realm of Thor stories, Thor 2

Really establish the power and presence of Thor on the Avengers.

I'm on the Fence About This Film

The first Thor film was really just ok at best. I have not watched it since I saw it in theaters. I started to watch it on Netflix Streaming but they had the full screen version so, I didn't watch it. I am hoping this film is better because Chris Hemsworth is really great as Thor. His moments with Loki on the top of Stark Tower were really great. He truly conveys Thor's love for his brother. Also, he kicks some ass. So, I really hope this film elevates above what's come before. Looking forward
