First poster from David Fincher's The Social Network is now online

Jun. 19, 2010by:

I like the tagline they use in this, the first one sheet for David Fincher's upcoming Facebook movie THE SOCIAL NETWORK. And for people that don't know anything about the film, just the simple but clever additions of the web browser elements is all you need to tell them what to expect. It's cool, I like it. Now let's get a trailer!

THE SOCIAL NETWORK opens on October 1st.

What Brer B8a said. . . .

Why on Earth did Fincher devote so much as a second to a Facebook movie?

The poster reminds me of the Facebook episode of South Park. If it's anything like that, it'll probably be brilliant.

I hate Facebook. It is the root of all evil for social disaster. It destroys relationships and friendships and gets you in touch with people you hoped you would never see again. I have one but I wish I didn't. If I were to delete it my life would be chaos because everyone would assume I have become depressed or something terrible had happened. I understand it isn't really Facebook's fault rather it is the fault of everyone who has become obsessed with it. The South Park episode based on

I'll see this movie though. Fincher is a pretty good director although I felt like Benjamin Button felt an awful lot like Forrest Gump to me. Can't wait to see his vision of 20,000 Leagues as well.

There's a lot more dark humor and social distortion than people realize with the story of FB. Look up some of the stuff that went on and you'll see why Fincher fits the project.

I'm way more excited about the not-Scientology story by PTAnderson than I am about the ugly truth about Facebook by Fincher.

I just like Benjamin Button better than Seven or Fight Club. I felt more engaged with a story about dealing with a shared reality than one where you are fighting to make your voice heard. All three are much better than most output anyway. I'll watch this one too and wherever else he may go.

I was against this project...

until I heard how unflattering and nasty it was. Apparently Sorkin and Fincher pull no punches and I for one can't wait to see it.

Great teaser poster. I may be alone in thinking Zodiac is the single most underrated, underappreciated film of the 2000's. It is tied with Eternal Sunshine for the very best films that came in out that decade. It's so meticulously made, crafted, detailed, and shot. It features career-best performances from Gyllenhaal and Ruffalo and engulfs you in a mystery the same way it engulfed every characters lives in that film. Agreed. Definitely one of the most underrated movies of the decade. I personally thought that it was topped only by There Will Be Blood and No Country for Old Men; other than that, it's clearly Fincher's best film, after Fight Club.

I miss the days when Facebook was exclusive to only college students. Anyone else agree?

But as for the movie I think it will be a sleeper hit. That is as long as it doesn't over stay its welcome for an extra half hour like Zodiac did.

Still not sure about this one. I feel this will be like Zodiac for me. When I saw it, I knew it was a good movie, but at the same time I was pretty bored during most the film. I have the feeling thats where this movie is heading.

His return to form if The Social Network flops will be The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. That is right up his wheelhouse.

Where as Fight Club and even Seven were films with complex, yet dark messages about the nature of life, I am excited to see Fincher trying a film about something complex like modern networking and socialising. Whether or not it is a project to finish up studio obligations is another matter, but this guy gets better with age. The problem with his earlier work is that it is excellent storytelling - YES, I agree - but it is not evolving human conciousness like his later work. Benjamin Button is

Benjamin Button is a far more satisfying movie than either Seven or Fight Club FOR ME. I know everyone has a different opinion (Gorrila boy) but to go from themes of the flaws of the human condition to films about the flaws of striving to make the human condition succeed and evolve are much more exciting for me.

And he stopped of in San Francisco to track a serial killer in between.

Cool, still uninterested.

Cool poster, especially with the search bar on the side, but i'm still not excited about this. I'm sure it'll be a good film but I just feel like Fincher should be making more interesting films than a freaking Facebook biopic.

Amusing Poster...

....still have absolutely ZERO interest in this, despite the talent involved.

I will check out the trailer, though.

Great poster! Great tagline. Still wary about this project, but it's Fincher, I have faith that he'll deliver something interesting.

Benjamin Button is a much better film than Seven or Fight Club. Seven and Fight Club are just visceral entertainment with antisocial messages. BB is about the nature of life.

Se7en actually has a superb message. It is depressing, but if you cannot respect or understand that then you must be living in an ignorant bubble.

That being said, you cannot sleep on Fight Club's message either. Wake up, buddy.

Wow - remind me to ask your opinion of something that really matters. I could dissect all 3 films to a master's level thesis if you wanted me to. But in short form - by far the one with a more resounding message that connects to more people in more walks of life is Benjamin Button. I liked Seven and Fight Club just as much as the next guy, but Benjamin Button is transcendent if you go back and watch ALL the themes it captures in that film. Come debate me in a forum if you're up for it.

"BB" is a long, boring, technically great film. "Zodiac" is the one he missed out on the deserved acclaim for.

I know I'm not a part of the common opinion of BB but for me it is a very richly told story about how we all live our lives from youth to old age and how the important people we include in our lives are often the people we look for when times change for us. I found a lot of meaning and subtelty in it and was never bored. I appreciate the complexity in the story but it is not for everyone. All of his film are good.

Anyone can throw a massive abundance of themes into a single film, but that does not make it good... it's about the quality, not the quantity. And to say that FC and 7 are films of lesser greatness when compared to BB is a highly subjective statement. One could theoretically state that, while BB had a bunch of great themes involved within its plot structure, FC and 7 had a lesser amount, yet they were stated in full circle. The tedious thought processing and intensely detailed imaginings that

The tedious thought processing and intensely detailed imaginings that took form in those two films stand as some of the most thought provoking and compelling acts of social reflection to take place in recent film history, in my opinion. Those two films have in their possession some very relevant ideas and concepts that need to be taken into consideration, as humanity is just moving more and more down that dark path of sh*ttiness. I choose 7 and FC over BB any day of the week. Not to say BB was a bad film, of course ;)

and, you know what? after thinking about all of that, I have come to the conclusion that I may be quite looking forward to the social network, as it may have some very important messages to share about what's going on with today's youth, the evolution of society's social structure, and, perhaps most importantly, what that all can mean in the effects this all has on us. If this is Fincher being Fincher, of course...
