First Ratchet & Clank trailer kicks some asteroid
With my gaming days casual at best as of late, I'd hardly claim to be an expert in the field of RATCHET & CLANK. I know they exist, which is about the extent of my knowledge on them, so I'm coming at their big-screen adaptation totally in the dark.
And that might be the best news Focus Features could hear right now, because, with no attachment whatsoever to these characters, I watched the first trailer the studio released today and I rather enjoyed it. I would absolutely be willing to give this one a shot next April. I think my kids might get a kick out of what this RATCHET & CLANK big-screen adventure is selling. And I think that's exactly the key to a video game movie being a success for once - it has to play not just to the hardcore fans but to the mainstream audience as well.
I'm sure there are RATCHET & CLANK purists who might look at this and find something to bitch or complain about. But I found this to have a clever sense of humor that at least intrigued me... and that's the name of the game.
RATCHET & CLANK sees theatrical release on April 29, 2016.
