First set photos of an Iron Man 3 villain are online and it is not The Mandarin

May. 30, 2012by: Alex Maidy

With rumors, news, and spoilers popping up like crazy for IRON MAN 3, these are the first set photos we have of one of the villains in the film which could also lend some new twists to the plot of the film.

We have all heard that Coldblood/Eric Savin would be one of the villains in the movie, but these photos apparently show Eric Savin in costume as Iron Patriot. Check them out below.

While it is hard to tell if that is a castmember or a stuntman in the costume, I do not think that is James Badge Dale. So, will Iron Patriot turn and become Coldblood or is this yet another new plot twist to the film?

In addition, Iron Patriot in the Marvel Universe is actually Normon Osborn (aka The Green Goblin). But, since Sony owns the rights to that character, Iron Patriot will be someone else in the Disney movie universe.

While I am excited for IRON MAN 3, I am beginning to feel that there is major villain overkill in this movie. Hopefully these snippets of news all tie together in a neat way, but it is obviously too early in production to tell for sure.

Hopefully we get a clearer idea of who is who in IRON MAN 3 before it opens on May 3, 2013.

I hope it doesn't become to villian ridden, that is what killed Spidey 3 in my book. Sandman is cool, but I love Venom and he deserves way more time in a movie. What they should really do with any more Spiderman movies is the whole Venom/Carnage story line from the early 90's.

They should really save the Iron Patriot for Avengers 2 or something. And I actually would have liked it if in the comics Iron Patriot wasn't Norman Osborn. I mean Spiderman didn't join the avengers until way late in the game so we should get somebody avengers character related like Justin Hammer to be Iron Patriot.

Why are people angry that Iron Man is fighting another Armored Suit Villain.
Isnt that the point of Iron Man? It's like saying, oh great, Spiderman is fighting another animal guy - Rhino, Octopus, Lizard, Puma, Scorpion, Vulture etc.

I find it hilarious how fanboys always overreact & freak out over the littlest things, guess thats the spoils of the internet media & automatically leads to doubts. I usually wait for teasers & trailers to decide if the movie will interest me. People always trip over the dreaded third movie in a comic series like its some curse. It happened with X-Men, Spider-Man, Blade, Superman, Batman Forever, and so on.

Yet another "tecno suit vs techno suit" movie...sigh

Damnit, why not just remake Iron Man 1 or Iron Man 2? Same plot. Does Iron Man REALLY not have a single enemy who doesn't have a rip-off Iron Man suit? For fuck's sake...

I like that they're still staying aware of the larger world, what with this guy looking a *lot* like Captain America here (as apposed to the illustrated version below).
But all the talk we've heard about this movie previously was about how it was going to be a "small" story, more of a character piece, etc. How do all these big villains factor into that? It seems kind of hard to reconcile..

It could be some kind of combination Iron Patriot and Detroit Steel, much like they combined Whiplash and Crimson Dynamo in Iron Man 2.

Why are people so up in arms about this? No one even knows what it is. That doesn't appear to be JBD or anyone else from the cast. It looks like the Iron Patriot suit but what if they just used the design for something different entirely? Somebody busted out their jumps to conclusions mat.

Don't get me wrong, I would love an Iron Patriot storyline but not like this. It needs to be done right with the Dark Reign arc and Norman Osborne needs to be in the suit. SHIELD needs to be dismantled and so on and so on. This is giving me all sorts of bad spidey 3 vibes.

I don't get the hate

Yeah...Iron Man fights a lot of guys who attempt to steal and/or mimic his technology. This is especially true in the movie-verse, where it is established that his creations are the dawning of a new arms race. Just as WWI meant everyone needed tanks, and WWII meant everyone needed airplanes, and the Cold War meant everyone needed nukes. THATS the metaphor.

Whats interesting about what we've sofar learned about '3' is that it seems its going to incorporate a character who discovers the NEXT new thing. The Iron Suits are going to be in danger of being obsolete. And if I had to take a wild guess, it may be that 'Iron Patriot' is going to be on hand to get his ass kicked in a very public way by this new technology just to prove that point.

Oh god...

Another man in a suit?!?!?! Yeah, just what I figured Avengers was missing, another guy in a metal suit for Iron Man to fight! Come on there's gotta be less of that shit, everyone complained about every bad guy has to get a metal suit after part 2, enough is enough.

i dont think they'd do Iron Patriot this early in the game. he could also be a variation of Detroit Steel (who also wore stars and stripes armor) from the Iron Man comics. Check the link for more info on Detroit Steel

thinking about it more i'd say i'm pretty sure its Detroit Steel or some version being that Detroit Steel and the SteelCorps are made by Hammer Industries in the comics and Hammer was one of the main villains in Iron Man 2

I totally base my hopes for any movie based on blurry cell phone photos

I actually think its a rather cool revelation that the Iron Patriot armor will appear (at least briefly)...could be as simple as an Easter Egg, or even as foreshadowing for either Captain America 2 or Avengers 2.

Say Whaaaaaaaat?

Whoa. They actually went and made a Iron Patriot suit. I dont know whether to be thrilled or what. I wish all the movie properties where with one company, it be awesome if they did a Dark Reign type of movie, or like how they did the lead up to Avengers, have a dark reign story line that stretch over each movie, then the avengers movie would be the finale to thaose set of movie. Man i hope when i graduate from film school i could make a marvel movie....the things i can come up with

It looks like someone took the War Machine stunt double (since we know Cheadle is in the movie, AND War Machine has the gun on his shoulder) and did a piss-poor job of painting over it in PhotoShop.

I'm not an avid comic reader. For those who are, does Iron Man actually have villians that aren't just another person in a super suit? You wouldn't know it from the movies. Still looking forward to this though.

Yes, Iron Man's main villain (The Mandarin) doesn't have a suit. He has ten rings of power, which is the organization mentioned in the first movie.

Yeah, The Mandarin is totally just a dude. A dude with wizardy, supernatural powers but still just a dude.
And there's always MODOK who is...uh...a guy who is a suit? Or a giant head that...just Google it.

i thought his rings were some kind of advanced alien technology or something - i dont think they are magic - which actaully would fit in, since the avengers fought aliens in their movie.
