First pics of Liam Neeson in Taken 2 kick ass and take names

May. 17, 2012by: Paul Shirey

The man with "a particular set of skills" is back in this first still from TAKEN 2.  Liam Neeson returns to the role of Bryan Mills that put him on the action movie radar, this time with director Olvier Megaton (COLUMBIANA) at the helm.  Co-star hotties Famke Janssen and Maggie Grace return for the sequel as well.

Take aim:

In an interview with EW, Neeson talked about the sequel, giving a few details on the story, most of which we've already known since the announcement, but interesting nonetheless.

On the story:

"I’ve taken a job over in Istanbul looking after a sheik who is there, and afterward I discover that my wife’s going through a very bad time with her new husband. So I suggest she and my daughter come over for a few days and hang out with me in this amazing city. And then… [laughs] all this s—t happens, of course."

On the timeframe and action quotient:

"The action is supposed to take place about a year or a year and a half after the first story. It’s a very clever sequel with the usual thrills and spills, but the ante is upped quite a bit in this one."

On the bad guys, who are apparently the relatives of the people he killed in the first film:

"Yeah, I took out a lot of Albanian guys — smugglers and sex traffickers. They met grisly ends. So now it’s their uncles, brothers, fathers, who have motive to find this guy, come hell or high water."

On who's actually "taken" in this one:

"I’m taken — let’s put it that way. They kidnap him to humiliate him, torture him, and ultimately bring him back to the village in Albania where the boys from the original film came from. With the help of my daughter… she wants to help me escape from where these bad guys have me."

The first TAKEN was a surprise for me, as it was for many who saw it.  The unrated cut is exceptionally more violent than the theaterical cut, which I naturally enjoyed.  I think it's great that Neeson has found this "second career" of sorts as the action man.  For a 60 year old he's pretty badass.

TAKEN 2 opens on October 5, 2012.

Extra Tidbit: I'd still love to see a Darkman sequel with Neeson again. Just pretend those other sequels never happened...

Extra Tidbit.

If any film series could do with a reboot and a proper franchise made out of it, it's Darkman.

Of all the stupid sounding unnecessary sequels out there, for some reason this one annoys me the most.

Tidbit...

"TAKE THE FUCKING ELEPHANT!!"

Neeson is believable and awesome to watch as an action star and also as a leader.

I will admit though, the director of this one scares me.

I'm taken with the pictures, but still skeptical. I do like him as an action star, but since his appearance in Battleship seems to throw things off for me, as if he's taking every role out there that signifies a type of power. Just hope he picks a good amount, but not too much.

He's like the actual MAX PAYNE we never got

With the trademark black leather jacket & the constipated look to boot. Well atleast we have Bryan Mills!

I'm glad to see Megatron stretching his wings and trying things other than leading the Decepticons, because he was never particularly good at that.

I enjoyed Taken, but did we really need a sequel?
That being said, I'll still check it out.

I'm cautiously optimistic

Liam Neeson makes a great bad-ass and this seems like a cool continuation of the original movie, instead of "the same, but bigger."

caption for 1st pic:

"Battleship-THIS!"

caption for 2nd pic

"Go ahead motherf@#ker! Mention The A-Team one time, go on I dare you!"

caption for 3rd pic:

"F#$k this is the worst, bonfire party. Ever!"

IMO I don't think a sequel was necessary ESPECIALLY when I remember what this SAME guy did to Transporter 3. Yes, the action was okay but whole movie felt EMPTY and Jason Statham looked bored in that one! I hope this sequel wont suffer the same fate and the 'role-reversal' shtick

I was surprised by how much I liked the first one, so I'm really looking forward to this just as along as it's not a sequel to Unknown we're all good.

Very excited, but...

...what worries me most is that Olivier Megaton is directing this. The guy did a modest job with Transporter 3 and a horrendous job with Colombiana. He better have a more sensible DP and an editor who knows what the hell he's doing.

I enjoyed Colombiana, but thought transporter 3 was so so!

Seriously. Columbiana was one of the most horribly edited action films I've ever seen. I practically had no idea what the fuck was going on at any given time.

Nobody on Joblo knew this before, but there's a reason my 2nd most used username on the internet is Neeson.

I'm really enjoying Neeson's recent run since Taken. I hope he keeps it up for some time.

Damn, seeing these pics put a huge smile on my face. And then you remind me it's being made by one of the worst directors in mainstream cinema. Hopefully this will be the film where Megaton finds his set of skills, and not be a terrible hack.

I feel like Neeson is filling the void left by Mel Gibson's absence in films. Both make you believe they have the ability to really kick-ass, but also have impressive acting chops that really make you care about their character. Needless to say, I'm excited for this sequel.

Awesome news, and I like the story. It sounds pretty simple, but it works! Another Darkman with Neeson would be awesome too!

Back to Ballymena

Neeson would make an excellent Judge Dredd.

"For a 60 year old he's pretty badass". Hell, Clint Eastwood is 81 and I'd still soil my pants if he even looked in my general direction while holding a water pistol.
