First synopsis for xXx: The Return of Xander Cage reveals new details

After a fourteen year absence, Vin Diesel will be returning to the role of extreme sports athlete-turned secret agent Xander Cage in the upcoming XXX: THE RETURN OF XANDER CAGE. The XXX sequel is currently shooting in Toronto under the direction of D.J. Caruso and thanks to a recent press-release by Paramount Pictures, we've got a good idea of what XXX: THE RETURN OF XANDER CAGE will be about.

The third explosive chapter of the blockbuster franchise that redefined the spy thriller finds extreme athlete turned government operative Xander Cage (Vin Diesel) coming out of self-imposed exile and on a collision course with deadly alpha warrior Xiang and his team in a race to recover a sinister and seemingly unstoppable weapon known as Pandora’s Box. Recruiting an all-new group of thrill-seeking cohorts, Xander finds himself enmeshed in a deadly conspiracy that points to collusion at the highest levels of world governments.

How many MacGuffin's have gone by the name Pandora's Box? Because it feels like a lot. XXX: THE RETURN OF XANDER CAGE will be "packed with the series’ signature deadpan wit and bad-ass attitude and will raise the bar on extreme action with some of the most mind-blowing stunts to ever be caught on film." The team is clearly taking a lesson from FAST & FURIOUS and surrounding Vin Diesel with an ensemble so that he doesn't have to growl his way through the film solo. Jet Li will be playing the leader of the opposing team and his enivitable showdown with Diesel is already looking amazing in my head. Once XXX: THE RETURN OF XANDER CAGE wraps up production in Toronto, they'll be moving down to the Dominican Republic.

Revolution CEO Vince Totino said:

We are extremely pleased to be working with Vin, Samantha, Joe, Kirsch and Paramount to bring this fan-favorite franchise back to the screen. ’xXx’ is one of the jewels in Revolution’s rich library of commercially successful and acclaimed films, and now with Vin on board, a great script and director D.J. Caruso on hand, we are poised to deliver a worthy successor.

XXX: THE RETURN OF XANDER CAGE doesn't have a release date yet, but we'll let you know as soon as it does
