First teaser for Disney's Alice Through the Looking Glass drops

Considering the fact that 2010's ALICE IN WONDERLAND grossed over $1 billion worldwide, I'm surprised it has taken Disney this long to make a follow-up, but the sequel is set to hit theaters next year, and the first footage from it has landed online. It's a very short look at the upcoming film though, however the release of it probably means a full trailer is on its way.

ALICE THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS comes from THE MUPPETS director and Flight of the Conchords co-creator James Bobin (taking over for Tim Burton), and besides (just to name a few) Mia Wasikowska, Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter and Anne Hathaway reprising their roles from the first movie, it also features the talents of Sacha Baron Cohen, Rhys Ifans, Toby Jones and Andrew Scott.

While story details haven't been revealed except that the film will follow Alice as she travels back in time to save the Mad Hatter after finding out he's turned even madder, obviously the film is based on the Lewis Carroll novel Through the Looking Glass, and like Burton's ALICE IN WONDERLAND, it's going to be a bit different compared to the source material. The only reason I'm even slightly interested in seeing the follow-up is because it was directed by Bobin, however I'd be lying if I said that I have high expectations for the sequel.

ALICE THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS will be in theaters on May 27, 2016.

I enjoyed the first film for the most part. It wasn't great, but I didn't feel it was as terrible as most people seem to say. This teaser certainly caught my attention.

Pass....

First movie was terrible. Piss poor visuals, story not worth remembering, Johnny Depp doing some dumb ass dancing.

I never understood all the hate for the first movie. Sure, overall it was lacking and certainly not the best adaptation of the source material...but for its sheer oddness it deserves more respect and acclaim than it gets.

There's a Pink Floyd song that answers that very question.

The most disappointing aspect of the first film was how bad it looked. Burton playing with this material should have at least given us pretty imagery but there was absolutely nothing memorable about the setting. For a filmmaker who made his reputation on costume and set design, this is worrisome.

I wish del Toro would be allowed to take over the franchise. But then again, it would probably flop...

Not sure whats worse, a teaser before the trailer, or a sequel to a movie hardly anyone of us wants.
