First teaser for Insidious features paranormal craziness from Saw's James Wan

01.24.2011

What happens when two veterans of low budget horror mash their heads together for one terrifying cocktail? We have INSIDIOUS, directed by SAW's James Wan and produced by PARANORMAL ACTIVITY's Oren Peli.

There's a new teaser out, which you can see below, that features a brief overview of the film. The story centers on a comatose boy haunted by a demon who makes things very uncomfortable for his family (Rose Byrne and Patrick Wilson). They initially believe the house to be the issue, but they find out it's their kid attracting the evil spirit.

I have to admit, the entire concept sounds a bit like PARANORMAL but with a higher budget, meaning now the bumps in the night can have CGI demon faces to accompany them I'm guessing.

Check it out below and draw your own conclusions:

Extra Tidbit: At least the kid being haunted gets to be asleep the whole time.

Isn't it every geek's dream to hit big with a low-budget movie and then be able to spin that into a career where you can make more movies and have the reputation/money to do it? I have no idea how involved Wan still is with the Saw franchise at this point, but my guess is that he is just collecting fat paychecks and putting his efforts into things like this. I would love to see what these guys can do with a budget and good actors. Mix that with their innovative thinking that got them here,

Interesting cast

Rose Byrne, Patrick Wilson - two very good reasons for checking this one out

Doesn't look as bad as I thought

I think Rose Byrne is fantastic, and have been watching Damages lately which has basically put me in a bit of Rose Byrne frenzy (having watched Sunshine, and Adam recently too). And Patrick Wilson is great (specifically in Hard Candy). But, the idea didn't really do nothing for me. Especially since I knew who was behind it -- I had no interest.

But, this teaser doesn't look bad, and I guess for Rose Byrne's sake, I'll peep it out.

I am a person who is excited about this one and I am not going to shit on your opinion. At least you were willing to express your concerns without totally ripping on the movie.

Wan hasn't disappointed me yet

Saw, Dead Silence, and Death Sentence are all fantastic and with Whannell writing, you know there's gonna be a great script. Can't wait!

I think my verbal reaction to this teaser is the best way for me to put it here:

"WHEW."

LOVED this movie...

Saw this flick at TIFF in September and LOVED it. The first 3/4's of it, at the very least, were stellar! Totally blew me away and scared the crap out of me!

The last bit was little bit hokey, but they might fix that by the time the film is released officially.

Still, definitely a movie I highly recommend to all of you.

I like pretty much everyone involved with this film (Wan, Peli, Byrne and Wilson) but the teaser did absolutely nothing for me.

It just seems very bland at the moment with your usual dose of music being cranked up randomly, quick editing, generic haunting story etc.

Obviously this is just 51 seconds from the film and not exactly anything I can fairly judge.

So the movie may be very good but I just found this teaser to be poorly edited and cheesy.

Yeah it seems like paranormal activity but I trust James Wan enough to deliver a great film. I haven't been disappointed with a Wan flick yet and with the addition of Wilson and Byrnes I am truly excited for this one.

scary or not?

i'm a fan of the Saw movies, though they should just combine the best parts of the 8 movies into one super-awesome trilogy. and Paranormal Activity wasnt that great. This looks awesome. finally a scary movie i actually look forward to seeing

When I see a trailer like that, I think to myself: There are too many movies from the 60's, 50's, 40's, before and after, and that havent had the chance to see yet. Why should I waste time and money on a flick like this one ?
