First teaser trailer for Grace of Monaco starring Nicole Kidman, Tim Roth, and Frank Langella

09.16.2013

Nicole Kidman is back at it again, wearing luxurious costumes for a historical period film with GRACE OF MONACO, based on the real-life exploits of actress Grace Kelly in her marriage to Prince Rainier III during the French Invasion of Monaco. Kidman playing Kelly is sure to rile up those who adore the classic actress who became a princess, but that's to be expected with most biopics. For me, Kidman is a reliable presence to anything she does (okay, except JUST GO WITH IT), so this should fall well in line with her talents.

Take a look:

Here's the Synopsis:

The story of former Hollywood star Grace Kelly's crisis of marriage and identity, during a political dispute between Monaco's Prince Rainier III and France's Charles De Gaulle, and a looming French invasion of Monaco in the early 1960s.

The film is directed by French filmmaker Olivier Dahaan, who is best known for 2007's LA VIE EN ROSE, which won actress Marion Cotillard an Academy Award for best actress. That's good news for Kidman, I suppose, who hasn't taken home a golden trophy since 2003's THE HOURS. Could GRACE OF MONACO be an awards maker for the actress?

GRACE OF MONACO has a limited release on November 27, 2013.

Two observations

One: I'm all set with this.
Two: They couldn't spring for spray-tan?

Nicole definitely looks the part

although she's on the high side for Princess Grace: Grace was in her thirties in the 1960's while Kidman's 46. But Kidman has the chops to do a good job; the only question is the director and the script. However, it won't have to do much to beat the DIANA biopic: the reviews on that one were scathing.

I can't believe they cast that overly botoxed freak as the beautiful Grace Kelly.

Set to be a duelling movie with the Naomi Watts-starring Diana? Arash Amel's script has apparently gotten a lot of attention; his only other produced screenplay so far is the sub-taken "Erased/The Expatriate" starring Aaron Eckhart, which wasn't great.
